Antrel Rolle reveals he played despite two torn rotator cuffs: "There were definitely times where my shoulder felt like it was almost coming out or if I jumped up to bat a ball down it felt like the worst things I’ve ever felt,’’ Rolle said. "Yeah, it definitely hurt. I’m not Superman, you know.’’
I don’t know. I don’t know. That’s just a situation where I have to… the coaching staff and the medical staff. They’re probably the better people to ask that question. I feel good, but if they told me I’m not ready, I’m not ready. I trust them whole-heartedly. The fact of the matter is, Coach said it’s going to be a little time, it’s going to be a little time.
The motivation and the mindset is we've got to get better. We got to become a better team, we got to become more consistent. You're looking at plays from last year, concepts over and over again, and say we ran this concept 50 times. Let's watch all 50 plays and let's learn from it. How can we get better? Why'd you have so many incompletions? What were the factors? Was it because of a misread? Or the way someone was playing it? So, just continue to learn in that aspect and ask myself, receivers, offensive line, everybody looking at their own technique and seeing how we can improve to make sure we play at a higher level this year.
We just don't want no setbacks. The team wants to take it 12 weeks, that's what we're giving it, so that's what we're going to go by. My goal is always to come back earlier, we just don't want no setbacks. We have to play it smart and be ready for the season
"I'm not mentally, not physically, ready [to retire]. I feel I have good energy. I'm excited every day. The competitiveness, the nature of the business, is something that I'm still excited about. I don't wander down that path. I don't think about retirement. I enjoy the situation I'm in. I appreciate the backing I've received from [Giants] ownership and the way the players have responded to our program.
It’s a little bit of a Chinese fire drill for everybody ... The defense is lined up half the time the wrong way and that type of thing. So those are some of the things that have to be kind of ironed out. But when you figure you have your draft choices, your undrafted college free agents that have been signed and then the tryout people, they did all right. We made it out to the practice field today. Nobody fell down. We got into the stretch position and it was okay.
"He had one good year, one good year don’t make you a great football player,'' Reese said. " It means you had one good year. He’s a smart young man, I think he wants to focus on what’s most important, and that’s football.''
I was sitting on the bed and the Giants had the last pick in the first round… And then Tampa Bay traded (up), and I thought, ‘Maybe they’ll get a running back. I know they need a running back.’ At that point, I was hoping for anything. The Giants are Super Bowl champions, and I’m like ‘They probably won’t pick me…’ I was just hoping that something would happen, and I get the New Jersey call and I start screaming.
Saturday Night Live will be fun and it will be a new experience for me. Right now I am probably more anxious than anything just to kind of figure out what I might be doing. I might be doing something that is a little bit out of my character or uncomfortable. But I’m looking forward to just working hard that week and having a lot of laughs and being prepared.
"I don't like being a backup, I can tell you that. It worked for us last year, but I was coming off an injury or whatever. But I see myself as a starter in the NFL. I see myself as a Pro Bowl type player. That's the way I see myself."
