On the value of Eli Apple and the 3rd CB Position

Hey BBV so I know most of us can understand the value of having 3 legitimate CBs on the field but allow me to further this with another reason or so for those who do not understand:

Think of this in terms of last year, we thought we had hit the jackpot with 3 young, talented potential safeties in Berhe, Jackson, and Thompson....and within 2 horrifying preseason weeks they were on IR and forced us to pick up guys the likes of Craig Dahl and beg Brandon Merriweather out of retirement....and why you ask? Because we didn't have a reliable option anywhere past Prince, DRC, and Collins.

What does this have to do with a 3rd CB?

It's simple. When you have a 3 CB set with a 4-3 Defense (for those that struggle with math like myself that's 10 players and the 11th is Collins as the only S). So now, if we can't find a descent center fielder in D. Thompson, M. Thompson, Jackson, or Berhe, or if injuries absolutely decimate us (save us Wellman!!!) then at least Giants fans can rest assured we have 3 solid Corners to cover their 3 best and leave Collins to play the read and react game. Think of it like this too, with Kennard healthy (as he excels in pass coverage) we now have their 3 WRs covered (or 2 WRs and a TE) with CBs and our LBs can focus on either a TE or RB that they can usually get much better reads on and Collins is free to read and react accordingly as the last barricade/all seeing eye.

Don't sleep on the value here. Even with a FS, injuries are a thing we can't seem to avoid and it's always nice to have different packages with 2 CB 2 S and 3 CB 1 S.
