[UPDATE 8:34 p.m. ET: Per the New York Post, Jason Pierre-Paul reportedly burned the flesh off his palm and figertips, but did not lose any fingers in a Fourth of July fireworks mishap.
If the New York Giants thought they had experienced their yearly off-season injury with Will Beatty's torn pectoral muscle, they were sadly mistaken. Almost as if on a cue another injury has hit the Giants.
Reports are coming in that star defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has suffered a hand injury in a fireworks accident while celebrating the 4th of July.
As of this writing, there is no information as to the extent of Pierre-Paul's injuries. Although some reports have used the word "severe", Pierre-Paul is still meeting with doctors to determine the severity his injury.

Jason Pierre-Paul injured in fireworks accident, as @Coach_Eisy and @Andy Slater reported. Still meeting with doctors to determine severity.Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 47s48 seconds ago
Jason Pierre-Paul expected to meet with doctors, they will have their say, but early indications are, hand injury is not career threatening.
Since Pierre-Paul has not yet signed his franchise tag, nor have he and the Giants agreed to a long-term deal, there is a very real financial component to this story. While the Giants are free to pull the $14mil franchise tender, doing so will automatically make Pierre-Paul an unrestricted free agent. Much of the Giants' moves going forward will depend on the severity of Pierre-Paul's injury and how much, and well, he is able to play in 2015.
It must also be noted that at this point we have very little information to go on, and do not know the cause of the accident, so let's keep the speculations about JPP's intelligence to a minimum shall we? But in a brief PSA: It is always best to leave the handling of fireworks to trained and licensed professionals.
Stay tuned to Big Blue View for more information as it develops.
UPDATE: 8:02 p.m. ET
It may not be game or season threatening, either. Everyone waiting for medical clarity. https://t.co/SYRaixIDef
