When you are a marginal NFL player getting yourself suspended four games for a PED violation is not going to help your chance of making a roster. That, however, is the situation for New York Giants linebacker Victor Butler. Let's look at Butler as we continue our player-by-player profiles of the Giants 90-man roster.
2014 Season in Review
Butler, coming back after missing all of the 2013 season with a torn ACL, played only two games last season, both with the Indianapolis Colts. He started the year with the Arizona Cardinals and was released. He was on and off the Colts' roster a couple of times and was let go for good in late November.
2015 Season Outlook
The Giants signed Butler to a reserve/futures contract in January, hoping perhaps that he could recapture the form that saw him spend four seasons withe the Dallas Cowboys. Butler, a five-year NFL veteran, already has a strike against him in what seems like a long-shot effort to make the Giants' roster, since he will begin the season serving a four-game suspension for a PED violation.
Considering the suspension, and the fact that the Giants seem set at the linebacker spot unless there injuries, you wonder if Butler even makes it to training camp with the Giants, much less winds up on the 53-man roster.
