The New York Giants shuffled, re-shuffled and then re-shuffled their offensive line throughout the past week. Part of that was due to injuries to reserves Charles Brown and James Brewer. Part of that, though, also has to be because the Giants are still searching for the combination they really want to use when the Sept. 8 season opener vs. the Detroit Lions arrives.
One idea that might be off the table, however, is trading for San Francisco 49ers holdout offensive guard Alex Boone. The 49ers reportedly are not interested in trading the 27-year-old Boone, holding out for a new contract after starting every game at right guard for the 49ers during the past two seasons. Boone is under contract for two more years, the final two years of a deal he signed before becoming a starter.
CSN Bay Area says it has alternately been told that San Francisco was "not interested in dealing" Boone, or would require a first- or second-round pick in exchange.
The Giants have used third-year man Brandon Mosley as their starting right guard throughout the preseason. Second-round pick Weston Richburg and former Miami Dolphins starter John Jerry could also be possibilities. The idea of moving Geoff Schwartz from left to right guard, probably installing Richburg on the left side, has also been floated by some.
