Georgia Bulldogs 2015 NFL Draft Scouting Report

This is a team that is loaded with talent. The WR, RB and LB corps are particularly strong. The DL hasn't lived up to its billing as highly rated recruits and its a mystery on why they haven't. Good team that may not make it into a BCS playoff because the SEC will cancel itself out in some ways. But Georgia has players o plenty:

#82 Michael Bennett (rSr.) WR (X) 6-3 205. Appeared in 39 games with 16 starts. Has experience at every WR position. Extremely savvy. Is a consummate possession receiver. Very good hands. Reliable and solid. Catches everything thrown his way. Has had two years in a row that has either been lost or interrupted by knee injuries. In 2012 it was an ACL and in 2013 he missed a few games with a torn meniscus. Isn't the greatest athlete. Having your QB as your roommate will only help his cause. 7th-UDFA.

#75 Kolton Houston (rSr.) RT/LG 6-5 295. Has appeared in 13 games with 6 starts (5 at RT and 1 at LG). Missed three seasons after being ruled ineligible by the NCAA for a banned substance. In his work last season the rust and lack of strength was obvious but this spring he's a completely different player. Looks stronger and bigger. Has extremely quick feet. Has positional versatility. Can play all line positions except C. Looks fluid in his movements and has very good technique. Hasn't obviously reached his ceiling having not played three years but the upside is there. Will go much lower than his talent warrants. 5th-7th round.

#14 Hutson Mason (rSr.) QB 6-3 202. Has appeared in 13 games with 2 starts. Backup to Aaron Murray for years but started two games to end the season after Murray's injury. A good athlete. Will surprise with his speed out of the backfield. Has a good feel for pressure in the pocket. Accurate passer. Has a good arm but his throws tend to come out of his hand like a pop up as opposed to a line drive. Very cerebral QB who's surrounding talent should get him in consideration to be drafted. Has the makings of a very efficient leader down the line who could surpass most other QB's in this class. 7th-UDFA.

#61 David Andrews (Sr.) C 6-2 295. Appeared in 37 games with 27 starts. Unquestionable leader of the OL. Named teams offensive MVP this spring. Make the line calls. A fiery competitor. Has short arms and despite solid technique bigger and stronger opponents get into his frame. Gets overpowered at times. Has value but I don't see a guy who gets drafted. UDFA.

#58 Sterling Bailey (rJr.) DL 6-3 282. Has appeared in 16 games with 8 starts. Plays mainly at DT in a 40 front but in a 30 he's a DE. Hard worker. Has good play recognition and knows where the ball is at all times. Hasn't made many plays. Isn't a playmaker or a difference maker. Is usually the last man off the ball. Doesn't play with aggression. Has no pass rush moves. Isn't particularly stout against the run. I see a rotational guy if he does declare but I see no reason why he should.

#31 Chris Conley (Sr.) WR (Z) 6-3 206. Has appeared in 36 games with 12 starts. Won the team award for most desire for his work this spring. No one works harder at their craft according to his position coach. Can also play the Y & Z positions. Intelligent and humble. Vines for arms. Has a lanky frame but isn't skinny. Gets to top speed in a hurry. Eats up the CB's cushion. Great hands with excellent leaping ability. Tops out at around a 4.5 40 guy, most of his receptions are contested and he's not a major threat to take the top off of a defense. Will be teams #1 option and has a chemistry with Hutson Mason already. Should break out in a big way. 2nd- early 4th.

#47 Ray Drew (Sr.) DE 6-5 276. Has appeared in 33 games with 7 starts. Has all of the physical attributes you'd ever want in a player. Big, strong and and gifted. To this point though he's a total enigma. Why has he not put it all together? Maybe he's miscast in a 3-4. Looks more like a 4-3 DE but will he adapt to a new scheme and a new system quickly? Hasn't yet work Jeremy Pruitt's defense and was running with the 2's and 3's. His games screams power and strength so you think he'd be stout in the running game. He is at times but it the other times that's alarming. He allows OL into his chest too often. He does show some pass rush acumen but nothing ever really happens. He needs to develop a few moves to combat that double team. Just doesn't have that "it" factor to his game and I doubt he develops it. Could top out as a 8 sacks a year type who's strong in the run game but that's being optimistic. A rotational type at best right now who'll leave you wanting more. 6th-UDFA.

#52 Amarlo Harrera (Sr.) ILB 6-2 236. Has appeared in 41 games with 31 starts. Will play the "Will" LB position in DC Jeremy Pruitt's defense. The role that got C.J. Mosley to be a 1st round pick. Dropped 10 pounds as coaches suggested to be in better shape for the no huddle that a lot of SEC teams run. Won teams defensive MVP last season. Makes all defensive calls and gets his troops lined up properly. Very active LB. works thru trash well and can take on a block from OL. Apt at moving toward the QB although he was never asked to in the past. Isn't the fastest guy so speedy RB's is a bit of a problem out of the backfield. The loss of weight will work against him some at the LOS. Overall solid ILB who should fine tune his game. 5th-6th round.

#93 Chris Mayes (Jr.) NT 6-4 321. CC transfer. Had a productive first year on campus after having appeared in 11 games with 8 starts. Needs to work on his technique and staying low because for a man with his size and arm length he gets moved back too much. Is currently 2nd on the depth chart at the nose so I don't see him declaring.

#26 Malcolm Mitchell (rJr.) WR (Z) 6-1 190. Has appeared in 25 games with 19 starts. Has experience at the X and Y positions also. Torn ACL in game one of 2013 cost him the season. Has been 100% for a while but was held out of all work as a precaution. According to QB Hutson Mason he was running sprints and kicking everyone's butts. Top notch athlete who played both offense and defense for a bit as a freshman. Electric and explosive with the ball in his hands. A go to type WR. Goes from zero to sixty in a flash. Knows how to find holes in zone coverage. Know how to run every route in the route tree. Is on the slight side. The injury bug has bitten him more than once, missing time with an ankle and a hamstring on separate occasions. Needs to prove he can remain healthy as well as prove that the ACL will hold up both physically and that he's over it mentally. I don't think he declares but if he does he goes in the early 2nd-mid 3rd range.
#39 Corey Moore (Sr.) SS 6-2 214. Has appeared in 38 games with 8 starts. Has the physical tools to be a really good football player but hasn't delivered so far. Aside from his late sack against Florida and an impressive open field tackle on Nick Marshall it's been ho hum. Has to stay healthy and finally make some impact plays if he wants to get drafted. 7th-UDFA.

#87 Jay Rome (rJr.) TE 6-6 254. Has appeared in 22 games with 2 starts. Has the ideal frame and speed that you'd want in a premiere TE. Hasn't fulfilled on that promise though due to inconsistency and injury. Has only 11 career catches so far. Missed 6 games in 2013 because of a foot fracture that required surgery. Didn't practice during the spring and although the depth chart at TE isn't anything he can't and shouldn't overcome you have to wonder if he's fallen behind too far. Needs to be really productive to even consider leaving after this season but with the talent out wide and in the backfield I don't see him declaring.

#86 Justin Scott-Wesley (rJr.) WR (X) 5-11 206. 4.35 40? Has appeared in 14 games with 4 starts. Tremendous athlete! Not a track guy playing football but a football player who happens to run track. Knows how to run routes. Can stop and start on a dime. Has good hands. High upside player but he has been slow to heal from a torn ACL in October. Should be ready by game one but he'll be behind. Has only caught 22 passes so he still has plenty to prove. One of the nations more exciting players but I don't see him declaring with his injury and the teams depth at WR. Will serve a one game suspension after a drug related issue.

#5 Damian Swann (Sr.) CB 5-11 178. Has appeared in 37 games with 28 starts. Veteran who knows how to play the position. A fierce competitor who seems to relish sticking his head in there in the run game. A tough guy. Doesn't get pushed or knocked around. Plays a lot of off coverage and does a relatively good job of keeping WR's in front of him. He like all of Georgia's DB's suffered from miscommunication and lapses in technique and gave up far too many big plays. Looks to be a complete CB without such issues. Because of his size he may be relegated to NCB duty. He could end up being one of the best in the league before long at it. 4th-5th round.

#51 Ramik Wilson (Sr.) ILB 6-0.5 232. Has appeared in 31 games with 12 starts. Came on like a one man wrecking crew as a junior. Led the SEC in tackles and played his best in the biggest games. Gets tackle after tackle. Has great instincts and exceptional ball awareness. Can go sideline to sideline. Is a very good blitzer, good against the run and the pass. Appears smaller than his listed 6-2. Like most smallish LB's he has trouble disengaging from the grasp of OL. He gets deleted from plays when he isn't protected. Often runs around blocks or moves backward to make a play, which result in positive gains. Has to add upper body strength. Was slow making defensive calls so he's unproven being that guy for his team. Has D'qwell Jackson type ability and he'd be better served in a 4-3. He's more than capable in a 3-4 though. 3rd-5th round.

#3 Todd Gurley II (Jr.) RB 6-1 232. Has played in 24 games with 22 starts. The most complete RB to come along in a while. Has the size, speed and power that are all elite. A bulldozer who's a tough task to tackle alone. It usually takes a gang tackle, a team effort to do the job. Excellent patience. Lets the play develop without ever rushing. The vision he possesses is top level as well. Has extraordinary hands out of the backfield. Picks up the blitz in pass protection quite well. There aren't any holes in his game but he has to stay healthy. Missed three games and was never really healthy all year after straining a quad in game one. Had a high ankle sprain in game four. Coach Richt has mentioned his focus and practice effort but not to the point where it's a major issue. Mid 1st-early 2nd.

#48 Quayvon Hicks (Jr.) TE 6-2 257. Appeared in 13 games with 6 starts at FB. Moved from FB to TE/H-Back this spring. An able blocker with decent hands. Doesn't declare.

#59 Jordan Jenkins (Jr.) OLB 6-3 246. Has appeared in 27 games with 19 starts. A 20 year old junior. Long arms and great frame for the position. Nice athleticism. Looks comfortable dropping back in coverage. Sets the edge really well in the run game. Has what it takes to be an excellent pass rusher. Knows how to get there with good power and quickness but at times has mental lapses and doesn't finish the play. Has no trouble getting pressure on the QB with 23 QB pressures each of his first two seasons. Needs to learn how to always finish. Is well rounded and has a mature game for a player so young. Game translates well to any scheme. Not the defenses headliner type but he'll be the one still standing after 7 years as the teams most consistent player. Late 2nd-early 4th if he declares.

#4 Keith Marshall (Jr.) RB 5-11 219. Has appeared in 19 games with 2 starts. Torn ACL I'm the fifth game ended his season and kept him from practicing and facing live action all throughout the spring but was up and running. Didn't appear based off of his movements to have even suffered an ACL injury. Exceptional athlete with sprinters speed. His acceleration thru the hole is unreal. Natural forward lean to his running style. Has make you miss ability but is more of a north-south runner. Has the most natural ability at the RB position for all draft eligible players. Size, speed and power blend is unmatched. Has natural hands. Knows how to pass protect as well. Because of the ACL and the fact that he's a "backup" who's never been that "it" guy for his offense, there will be questions if he can do that. No doubt in my mind he can. Should declare because the carries won't increase much with the talent on campus. 3rd-5th round steal. Has top 10 talent.

#13 Marshall Morgan (Jr.) PK 6-3 200. Had a very inconsistent freshman campaign making only 8 of 14 FG attempts and 63 of 67 PAT's. Was arrested and suspended the first two games of the 2013 season for BUI. It's all been way uphill from there. Was 22-24 on FG's and was the only K in the FBS to make two FG's from 55 yards out. 47-47 PAT. Extremely strong leg and very accurate. Needs to work on his KO's with only a 25.3% going for TB's. if he declares he's a 5th-7th rounder.

#71 John Theus (Jr.) LT/RT 6-6 309. Has appeared in 27 games with 22 starts all at RT. Has an obviously talented skill set. Raw talent who is very coachable and his versatility is a huge plus being able to play both T spots. Very inconsistent technique. Gets beaten by pass rusher too often for his level of skill. Lunges far too much. Isn't powerful enough yet in the run game and gets little push. Isn't yet ready for a move up. Needs these two years to refine his game at his natural LT position and to get bigger and stronger and learn to use his size to his advantage.

#88 Toby Johnson (Sr.) DE/DT 6-4 305. CC transfer. Played in 10 games. Had 7 tackles his first year on campus. Played sparingly while backing up Sterling Bailey and dealing with ankle and knee injuries. May be the most athletic of all the DL. Has excellent strength and quickness for a big lineman. Will be a valuable backup. UDFA.

Non draft eligible player(s) of note:

#84 Leonard Floyd (So.) OLB 6-4 220. Prep school transfer.Has played in 13 games while starting 8. Pass rush extraordinaire! Is generally the first guy off of the snap. Is cat quick with a natural bend that gives him a leverage advantage. Great frame but must add weight. Doesn't anchor well against the run so size and strength are a must.
