Giants Roster Breakdown: John Conner, FB

John Conner - Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

John Conner is one of two veterans competing to be the Giants' fullback in 2014.

John Conner or Henry Hynoski? Which veteran player will be the fullback for the New York Giants in 2014? The Giants are a long way from answering that question, but for us today is Conner's turn in the spotlight as we continue player-by-player profiles leading up to the beginning of training camp on July 21.

2013 Season In Review

Conner, nicknamed 'The Terminator' for his blocking prowess, joined the Giants after Hynoski suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. Formerly with the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals, Conner had lost a training camp competition for a roster spot with the Bengals. Conner played in 13 games with the Giants, and the 5-foot-11, 240-pound fullback showed how he earned his nickname. In just 245 snaps, Conner earned a +9.0 Pro Football Focus grade, best on the Giants' offense and fourth overall among NFL fullbacks. His +8.7 run-blocking grade placed him third among players at his position.

2014 Season Outlook

This depends entirely on what the Giants will ask from their fullback. The position will provide one of the most interesting position battles on the preseason. It’s a mano-a-mano duel between Conner and Hynoski. Who wins if both are healthy? It probably comes down to this simple question – what do McAdoo and Coughlin want in a fullback? Conner is the slightly better blocker, Hynoski the better receiver and running threat.

There is no way to call this one right now.
