Zack Bowman Signing: Giants ink former Bears cornerback

Bowman (38) is the latest addition to the secondary by GM Jerry Reese - Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants and Zack Bowman have come to terms with Zack Bowman.

The New York Giants aren't done tweaking their secondary just yet. New York and free-agent cornerback Zack Bowman have come to terms on a one-year contract, according to ESPN Insider, Adam Caplan.

Rumors have circulated of a potential deal between the Giants and Bowman for roughly two weeks. The 29-year-old was originally drafted by the Bears in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

After starting the season on the practice squad his rookie year, Bowman was activated in week seven versus the Vikings in 2008. He sustained an injury in the fourth quarter and would land on the injured reserve, but recovered a fumble for a touchdown in his first game.

Bowman returned in 2009 to start 12 of Chicago's 16 games. He recorded 66 tackles, six interceptions and 10 passes defensed. He was named the team's No. 1 corner the following year, replacing Charles Tillman on the left side. In 2012, Bowman signed a one-year deal with the Vikings. He was waived in September and rejoined Chicago. Last year, Bowman finished with 48 tackles, eight passes defensed and three interceptions.

Along with the success Bowman has seen in his five years at corner, he's had immense success on special teams, a role the Giants will most likely expect him to excel in.

Bowman looks to complete General Manager Jerry Reese's overhaul of the secondary joining free-agent signees Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Walter Thurmond III. It also may signal the end of a potential return for Terrell Thomas and clouds the roster chances of Jayron Hosley.

The Giants also made the re-signing of Mike Patterson.
