2014 NFL Mock Draft: Mocking The Draft gives Giants Eric Ebron, Tim Jernigan

Tim Jernigan - Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Mocking The Draft selects Eric Ebron and Tim Jernigan for the Giants in a two-round mock draft.

It is a Monday just about six weeks away from the 2014 NFL Draft, which must mean our friends at SB Nation's Mocking The Draft are out with -- you guessed it -- yet another 2014 NFL Mock Draft. Because we know you are just dying for another mock draft to argue about, let's see what MTD's Dan Kadar and Matthew Fairburn have done for the New York Giants this time around.

With the 12th overall pick, Mocking The Draft has selected ... drumroll, please ... North Carolina tight end Eric Ebron for the Giants. At No. 43 overall in the second round, the choices is Florida State defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan. Let's examine the explanations for both picks, and offer some reaction.

Ebron

MTD says: Giants fans should know the drill by now on this pick. New York's offense needs playmakers. With Watkins and Evans off the board, Ebron would be an easy choice if they're looking for offense with the 12th pick. Ebron is capable of making spectacular catches and can create mismatches against linebackers and safeties.

Valentine's View: Yes, by now we know the drill. Noteworthy here is that both Pittsburgh defensive tackle Aaron Donald (14th to the Chicago Bears) and Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan (15th to the Pittsburgh Steelers) were bypassed in favor of Lewan. I am actually going to say very little because in our own 2014 Big Blue View Community Mock Draft there is a possibility that I will face the same choice.

Jernigan

MTD says: Free agency opened up some holes on New York's defensive line. Timmy Jernigan is nice value here. He has some positional versatility as well.

Valentine's View: Not big on this pick. Look down the rest of MTD's second round and I see several players selected after the 43rd pick I might be happier with. Those include Vanderbilt wide receiver Jordan Matthews, Mississippi State guard Gabe Jackson, Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde, BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy and, if Ebron is not the pick at 12, Notre Dame tight end Troy Niklas.

In his Jernigan Prospect Profile, 'Invictus' writes:

I don't see him as an ideal fit for what the Giants need inside. I don't personally think Jernigan is a good enough pass rusher with enough explosion to take advantage of what Johnathan Hankins brings. At the 3 technique spot, an anchor the caliber of Jernigan is nice, but I want speed and explosion.
