Giants won't tender Henry Hynoski, per report

Henry Hynoski's time with the Giants could be over - Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

Fullback Henry Hynoski will be allowed to test the free agent market by the Giants, who reportedly will not tender him.

The New York Giants will not offer fullback Henry Hynoski a free-agent tender, according to a report from Pro Football Talk. PFT also reported that the Giants "would like to re-sign Hynoski, but at a lower rate than an RFA tender."

This can hardly be considered shocking news. The minimum restricted free agent tender for the 2014 season is $1.431 million. The Giants already have a bruising fullback in John Conner under contract for 2014. It stands to reason they would not spend $1.431 million on Hynoski, who just completed a three-year rookie deal worth $1.41 million.

The Hynocerous played in only three games in 2013. He missed most of the preseason after suffering a knee injury during offseason training activities, then suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.

Conner played well for the Giants after being signed as a free agent to replace the injured Hynoski. In 245 snaps, he ended up with the highest Pro Football Focus grade of any Giants' offensive player, a +9.0. That included a +7.0 in run-blocking, obviously the primary job of a fullback.

If he draws no interest on the free-agent market, Hynoski could still be brought in by the Giants on an inexpensive, non-guaranteed contract and given the opportunity to compete for a roster spot.

[UPDATE 11:38 AM EST: The Giants also will not tender center Jim Cordle, per a published report.]
