This may sound crazy, but every time I look at our DEs I see a huge hole. We all hope JPP returns to form. But with that said, I'm not sure how confident I am in him becoming a dominant pass rusher if he's the only guy out there . His effectiveness would be limited as the only viable DE. I like the potential of Damontre Moore, but let's get serious- if the reports are true of his mental lapses and issues with the playbook, can we really expect TC to make him a full-time starter? Im not so sure about that. Kiwi is our only depth piece and we all saw how ineffective he was playing at that spot last year. If the QBs at the top of the draft continue to slip past the Giants, there may be less talent available then we think, opening up DE as a possibility.
The problem is that there really isn't a guy to slot to us at 12. But in today's NFL, and the Giants history with pass rushers, would it really be that crazy to think that DE would be out of play at 12? I don't think it would be. Here are the players with a late 1st, early second grade.
Kony Ealy- Missouri
Dee Ford- Auburn
Stephon Tuitt - Notre Dame
Rashede Hageman- Minnesota (most likely will stay at DT)
Out of these guys, Ealy makes the most sense to me. He is prototypical DE in a 4-3. He is a strong contributor while also being a solid locker room guy. The other guys all likely fit better in a 3-4. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility, especially if the QBs slip past the Giants, and Mike Evans and Ebron are no longer available.
