The New York Giants wasted no time Monday evening officially announcing the free-agent signing of cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Roders-Cromartie, 28 next month, reportedly signed a five-year deal worth $35 million.

Rodgers-Cromartie said he likes what the Giants have done in free agency, bringing in players from teams that were successful in 2013.

"The main thing, bringing in guys from Kansas City, Seattle, you can see what they're doing, trying to bring guys that are going to come in and lead by example," Rodgers-Cromartie said. "That's always a plus."

A former first round draft choice and 2009 Pro Bowler, Rodgers-Cromartie is entering his seventh NFL season. He has also played for Arizona and Philadelphia. Rodgers-Cromartie played on two conference champions, the 2008 Cardinals and the 2013 Broncos. Rodgers-Cromartie was a teammate of Giants' safety Antrel Rolle while in Arizona. Rolle today lobbied on Twitter for his former teammate to join the Giants."He (Rolle) brought me in, took me under his wing and took care of me. So to be reunited with him is just a blessing. I know the things that he's done in his career and the man he's become. That's going to be a help for me.

"I'm glad to be here. Especially with Antrel and talking with the defensive coaches and the staff and even coach Tom (Coughlin), just talking with them, it's going to be good."

Rodgers-Cromartie was the 16th overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Cardinals. He made the Pro Bowl in 2009. DRC has 19 career regular-season interceptions.

In 2013, he had 15 passes defensed, three interceptions and had the fifth-highest Pro Football Focus grade among all cornerbacks who played at least 25 percent of their team's snaps, a +13.0.

The Giants have also added cornerback Walter Thurmond in free agency and re-signed last season's pleasant surprise, Trumaine McBride.

"I definitely believe this is a championship team," Rodgers-Cromartie said. "Starting with Eli, a great quarterback, a guy that you know can get it done. He's done it, proven it before. They're bringing in a lot of pieces, so I definitely think it's going in the right direction.

"I haven't really found anywhere to just call home for real. So if I can just settle down and find a place to be home, I know my best football is ahead of me."
