The Giants and Jon Beason have agreed to a new deal, person apprised of negotiations tells me.— Aditi Kinkhabwala (@AKinkhabwala) March 12, 2014
Beason, the middle linebacker who made a tremendous impact with the Giants after being acquired via trade from the Carolina Panthers during the 2013 season, has been a priority for the Giants to re-sign all along. Representing himself in free agency he apparently wanted to test the market to see what other offers might be available.
The 29-year-old Beason revitalized his career after last season's trade, making 93 tackles in 12 games for New York. He had played in only seven games for Carolina from 2011 thru the early portion of 2013 as injuries kept him sidelined. Beason, with his long history of injuries, might be only a short-term solution at middle linebacker for the Giants, but he was a player they could not afford to lose heading into 2014.
No word on the terms of the contract.
