It's silly season. the time when we discuss who we want in the draft based upon our projected positional needs without knowing what positions get filled through free agency (both for players lost and gained). So this a great time to discuss some basic questions.
I wonder how people determine that a player was a great value in the draft or a reach. How many spots does it take for us to state "He never should have gone that high" or "Man, did he drop". If the Giants take a player at 12 that you think should have been taken at some later spot, how low must that spot be for you consider that player a reach at 12? Do you only look at skill level? Does the ability to draft a quality player in the next round matter to you? Do you have some other mental calculus?
I don't know the know the answer. However, before we start yelling (in good nature hopefully) that players were a reach come the draft, I think it would be interesting to discuss what the word "Reach" actually means to us.
