Jerry's Misses

There has been a lot of talk about who is responsible for the dire straits the Giants find themselves in.
Its a tossup between Reese and Coughlin. And then there are those who believe its both. I doubt anyone things its neither.
I for think its more on Coughlin than Reese. Naturally the 'failure' of Jerry's drafts have to be addressed as well.
Barring the 2007 draft (which everyone acknowledges was a success) the accusation is Jerry has failed in most of his other drafts. I am going to list all the top 3 picks from drafts 2008-2013 with my comments against them. Anything beyond 3rd or 4th round is a bit of crap shoot.

2008
1. Kenny Phillips - Injured a lot , but did creditably when playing.

2. Terrel Thomas - Injured a lot , but did creditably when playing.

3.Mario Manningham - Valuable production, Mixed results, but more good than bad.

2009
1. Hakeem Nicks - Almost a superstar, did creditably while not injured.

2. Clint Sintim - Career derailed by injury

2. Will Beaty -- A bright spot on a terrible line

3. Beckum & Bardem - Never given much of a chance by coaching staff, also hurt for long stretches.

2010

1. JPP - Almost a superstar, did creditably while not injured.

2. Linval Joseph - Did well while here, allowed to walk for a younger player.

3. Chad Johnson- Never saw the field due to injury

2011

1. Prince Amukamara - A star in the making if not already one.

2. Marvin Austin - Swing and a Miss. But also injured his first couple of years.

3. Jerrel Jernigan - Never saw the field behind Victor Cruz, but showed promise last season. A failed pick by most counts.

2012

1. David Wilson - Career derailed by injury. Probably picked a RB before OL was a mistake anyway.

2. Ruben Randle - Bordering on a failed pick, but you can see why Jerry took a chance.

3. Jayron Hosley - Failed pick. There have been suggestions he wasn't utilized to his strenghts, but I think on the current evidence a failed pick.

2013

1. Justin Pugh - Need married Value, Jury is still out on a second year player, but good outweighs the bad.

2. Jonathan Hankins - As good as hoped.

3. Damontre Moore - Incomplete

So in summation
1-3 Jerry has missed, but on balance fewer times than he has hit. You can't really put the injuries on him.
Other than Marvin Austin and maybe Jayron Hosley I can't see any glaringly bad picks.
The 2009 draft one must remember was right after the 12-4 Giants were 1 and done in the playoffs since we lost Plax. I understood the need to bolster the receiving corps with 3 picks. Jerry Probably sensed the era of the tight end pass catcher was upon us with the Beckum pick, but the Coaching staff didn't really know how to use him.

I could do a similar analysis for picks 4-5.. cos expecting anything out of 6-7 is just asking for too much.
