New York Giants' Coaching Rumors: Mike Sullivan to interview -- reports

Mike Sullivan - Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The latest news and rumors from the New York Giants' coaching carousel.

No hirings or firings on the coaching staff of the New York Giants thus far on Monday, but there is news to report nonetheless. Multiple reports via Twitter have indicated that Mike Sullivan, linked to the offensive coordinator job ever since Kevin Gilbride retired, will interview with the Giants this week.

Jordan Ranaan of NJ.com and Conor Orr of the Star-Ledger have been out front on this story.

Sullivan was, of course, wide receivers and quarterbacks coach for the Giants before spending the last two seasons as offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under the recently-fired Greg Schiano. After his offense set several franchise records in 2012, Tampa Bay finished last in the NFL in offense in 2013.

It is believed that Sullivan, if hired, would run an offense similar in style to the one employed by Gilbride. Sullivan was a collegiate defensive back at Army and, with the exception of a stint as offensive quality control coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars, had been a defensive coach until coming to the Giants in 2004.

There has been plenty of speculation about other candidates, but Sullivan's is the first reported interview.

Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell interviewed for the Washington Redskins head-coaching job today. No word as of now on how that interview went. Things don't look good for Fewell getting that job, however. There was a report that Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden could be getting the job, along with indications that Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, a couple of members of the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff, along with Vanderbilt coach James Franklin and just about any other living, breathing coach interested might be interviewed.
