Gilbride's Legacy

I just wanted to post a little historical perspective on how Gilbride's offenses did (offensive ranking by points) prior to this year compared to the Giants offenses prior to his arrival. In the Super Bowl era, he was by far and away the Giants' best offensive coordinator statistically (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyg/). No one comes close.

And if he gets no credit for the good years, perhaps because of Eli and other offensive weapons, then he can't justifiably take the blame for the bad year this year. You can't have it both ways -- it can't be that the offensive coordinator has no positive effect on a successful offense but has the biggest effect on an unsuccessful offense.

Anyway, on to the stats:

2012 - 6th (remember everyone booing and calling for Gilbride's head last year? Despite the fact that the defense was 31st in the league in yards allowed and the offense was 6th in points?)
2011 - 9th - Super Bowl (defense was 27th in yards allowed and 25th in points allowed)
2010 - 7th
2009 - 8th
2008 - 3rd
2007 - 14th - Super Bowl
-------Gilbride Takes Over-------
2006 - 11th
2005 - 3rd
2004 - 22nd
2003 - 30th
2002 - 22nd
2001 - 21st
2000 - 15th
1999 - 20th
1998 - 23rd
1997 - 21st
1996 - 28th

I don't disagree with the move, cause a change was necessary, but I just hope the mob mentality, which simplifies the Giants' troubles and scapegoats Gilbride, doesn't skew the reality - that he was damn good at his job, especially compared to what we Giants fans were used to. We should remember him for that. I just think people got really spoiled really quickly.
