The New York Giants are in full-on purge the offensive coaching staff mode. Reports from a variety of sources on Twitter indicate that the Giants have relieved running backs coach Jerald Ingram of his duties. That quickly follows the news that tight ends coach Mike Pope is being let go.
Two long-time Coughlin assistants are out. So for those of u who believe Coughlin was too loyal to his coaches, this should prove otherwise.— Patricia Traina (@Patricia_Traina) January 15, 2014
Traina has hit the nail on the head here. The hiring of Ben McAdoo as offensive coordinator is the impetus for this drastic makeover, and the McAdoo move in itself showed that Coughlin was ready to embrace change.
Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports has reported that quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan could be retained, but that his role on the staff may change.
Ingram spent 10 seasons coaching running backs with the Giants.
