Emotion? Giants' coach Tom Coughlin wants 'better play'

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Tom Coughlin held his weekly press conference Wednesday to discuss preparations to play the Carolina Panthers.

Lack of emotion on the sidelines? Some New York Giants' players, like Antrel Rolle and Justin Tuck, indicated this week there might be a lack of excitement among the players during games. Tom Coughlin had an answer for that Wednesday during his weekly press conference.

"I’d like to see better play. I think there would be plenty of emotion," Coughlin said. "Fact of the matter is we need to play better.

"I'd rather talk about finishing and playing four quarters than I would about needing more of this, needing more of that."

The Giants have turned the ball over 10 times (seven interceptions, three fumbles) and are -8 in the takeaway category. Coughlin said the turnovers have "kept us from being what we need to be."

"We've gotta get our football right. We've gotta stop hurting ourselves," Coughlin said. "It's a challenge for all of us to get this right right now. We can fix a lot by hanging onto the ball."

There are only two players on the Giants' pre-practice injury report, David Diehl (thumb) and Adrien Robinson (foot). Everyone else will practice, although Coughlin admitted some players will be limited.

"I hope it helps, I hope it pays off. This is what you're after, you'd like to be able to have a full menu every week," Coughlin said.
