Valentine's Views: Super Bowl, Roger Goodell and more

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell - USA TODAY Sports

A few things worth weighing in on today, including Roger Goodell's paycheck.

Pardon me in advance for getting my Mile Lupica on this morning, but I thought I would weight in today with some opinions on a few topics of interest from the previous week.

2014 Super Bowl

I don't know about you, but I'm already growing tired of the weather-related stories surrounding the 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium. The stories are all about the weather-related contingency plans being made if -- unbelievably -- it actually snows!

It almost seems like now that it is a reality that the next Super Bowl will be played outdoors in a cold-weather climate there is panic that it might actually be cold. Or -- gasp! -- it might snow! You get the feeling that Joe Flacco isn't the only one who doesn't think this is a great idea.

You know what? Who cares? Sure, people won't be walking around in shorts and t-shirts. But, the New York/New Jersey area can -- and will -- throw an amazing party. If it snows, it snows. This isn't Dallas, where a little snow and ice paralyzed everything a couple of years ago. It will be dealt with.

If, all of a sudden, your big worry is how to host a halftime extravaganza in the cold, well, maybe you should have thought about that before.

It's going to be a great event, and I'm glad the NFL is letting New York/New Jersey host it.

Roger Goodell's Salary

Reports came out this week that Commissioner Roger Goodell took home $29.5 million in salary over the past season. Reportedly, more than $22 million of that came in the form of bonus money.

Does anyone else find the amount of money Goodell is making utterly ridiculous? A year ago forcing the league through a lockout? With retired players kicking and screaming -- and in many cases suffering -- and not getting nearly enough relief from the league?

What, exactly, has Goodell done to earn that money? And even if you think he's doing a good job couldn't the league put much of that money to better use on research for better equipment, better treatment of brain injuries, better services and benefits for its retired players?

Giants and the salary cap

I see many comments on BBV and Twitter from fans concerned about the Giants' salary cap situation. There is still plenty of time before March 12, when free agency begins. Just relax -- the Giants know what the numbers are and what they want to do. They will do what they have to do to put themselves in better financial position.
