Eli Manning, Hakeem Nicks Injuries: Quarterback, receiver out with ankle sprains

Ron Antonelli

Manning, Nicks see their seasons end.

It took 16 games and nearly two quarters of a 17th, but the New York Giants' brutal offensive line finally got quarterback Eli Manning injured on Sunday.

Manning was injured when he was hit while attempting a pass late in the second quarter. A hobbled Manning threw his 27th interception of the season on the next play, then immediately exited for the locker room. Manning was sacked a career-high 39 times this season. After the game head coach Tom Coughlin said Manning had suffered a high ankle sprain.

Curtis Painter took over at quarterback in the second half.

Hakeem Nicks also saw his season, and possibly his Giants' career come to an end in the first half. Nicks sprained an ankle when he was called for pass interference in the end zone. He ended the season with 56 catches, 896 yards and no touchdowns. Nicks is a free agent, and most experts expect Nicks to depart the Giants.

Will Beatty was carted off early in the third quarter. He ended up with the worst injury of all, a fractured leg.

Rueben Randle and James Brewer also suffered injuries for the Giants. Randle left the game with a knee injury and Brewer went out with a re-occurrence of an ankle injury.
