Giants-Redskins 2013 Week 17 Odds: Giants 3.5-point favorites

Patrick McDermott

Giants open as favorites in their last game of the season.

The New York Giants (6-9) opened as 3.5-point favorites for their last game of the season against their division rival, the Washington Redskins (3-12), in a game featuring teams who both have already been eliminated from the playoffs.

The Giants opened the season looking like one of the worst teams in football with an 0-6 record. They showed life after that disappointing start, winning their next four. But the Giants and Eli Manning, who leads the league in interceptions, could not keep the momentum going, losing three of their next five to fall to 6-9 on the year. After winning the division last season, the Redskins came into this season as favorites to repeat. But Robert Griffin III struggled all season coming back from an ACL tear and backup Kirk Cousins has not been much better, going 0-2 since the shutdown of Griffin for the season.

The Giants and Redskins both come off thrilling games this past week. The Giants won in overtime on the road against the Detroit Lions to knock them out of the playoffs, although this game seemed to be more about the Lions imploding than the Giants playing well. The Redskins held a 23-14 lead in the fourth quarter at home against the Cowboys but could not hold on, giving up a touchdown on fourth-and-goal in the final minutes and losing, 24-23.

The Big Blue View Power Rankings have both teams ranked near the bottom with the Giants at no. 24 and the Redskins at the second lowest spot possible, no. 31. SB Nation's version of the rankings has the Redskins ranked at the same spot, but moved the Giants up to no. 22 after their win over the Lions.
