New York Giants' Injury Report: Ten players out of Wednesday practice

Jerrel Jernigan absorbs a big hit vs. Seattle - Elsa

Injuries may leave the Giants short-handed at several positions on Sunday vs. the Detroit Lions.

Attendance at Wednesday's practice for the New York Giants will be sparse. Ten players are on the injury report, and according to media reports head coach Tom Coughlin said during his Wednesday morning briefing that none of those players would practice Wednesday.

The list includes:

Wide receiver Victor Cruz (knee/concussion), guard James Brewer (ankle), guard David Diehl (knee), running back Peyton Hillis (concussion), defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins (shin/quad), wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan (knee), cornerback Trumaine McBride (groin), defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder), safety Cooper Taylor (hamstring), cornerback Terrell Thomas (knee).

The injury report could lead to several less-than-ideal situations for the Giants Sunday vs. the Detroit Lions.

Cruz figures to be out, and Jernigan's injury makes the wide receiver situation dicey if he can't play. The third-year receiver had a career-best seven-catch game Sunday, and with Cruz sidelined there is an opportunity for him to impress. If Jernigan can't go, Louis Murphy and newly-signed Julian Talley would be the only available wide receivers after Hakeem Nicks.

On the offensive line, Brewer's ankle injury is apparently real, and Diehl's knee injury is a new development. How the Giants line up Sunday in an attempt to protect Eli Manning is anyone's guess at this point. Brandon Mosley would figure to start at one guard, but if there is a second spot to fill whether Dallas Reynolds or Stephen Goodin steps in remains to be seen.

Hillis' concussion leaves Michael Cox as the only backup for Andre Brown. Cox may also have to handle kickoff return duties if Jernigan is unable to play.

Pierre-Paul continues to miss practice, and it seems more and more likely that he is done for the season.

Pretty apparent that the Giants, both literally and figuratively, limping to the finish line.
