Giants' Injury News: Andre Brown 'ready to help'

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Brown has missed the first eight games due to a fractured leg.

Running back Andre Brown, on short-term IR all season due to a leg fracture suffered in the final preseason game, is "ready to help" the New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said on Wednesday.

Brown has not been removed from IR yet, but that sounds like a formality.

"All I think about is when he played a year ago. I’m looking forward to the return of that player, quite frankly," Coughlin said. "Size, speed, he can catch the ball out of the backfield, he does a good job in pass protection. You sometimes forget that the guy is 230 pounds. That’s a little bit of a different dimension."

Brown averaged 5.3 yards per carry and scored eight touchdowns in 10 games last season before breaking his leg -- the same injury that knocked him out for the first half of this season.

Coughlin also expects to have Brandon Jacobs, sidelined the past two games with a hamstring injury, available. How will the Giants divide the workload between Brown, Jacobs and Peyton Hillis?

"We'll see how the week unfolds, but there will be a set plan," Coughlin said.

Other Injury News

Coughlin said he expects Victor Cruz, who did not practice Wednesday, to practice Thursday. The pre-practice injury report is below.

Victor Cruz - Neck
Jayron Hosley - Hamstring
Brandon Jacobs - Hamstring
Shaun Rogers - Knee
Adrien Robinson - Foot
Terrell Thomas - Knee
Corey Webster - Groin
David Wilson - Neck
