Giants vs. Raiders, snap counts data

Mathias Kiwanuka - Al Bello

A look at the Giants' snap counts from Sunday's game vs. Oakland.

What can we learn from the snap counts data for Sunday's New York Giants-Oakland Raiders contest.? Well, let's break it down and see what we can find out.

Snap Counts

Player Pos. Snaps
David Diehl G 65
Kevin Boothe G 65
Jim Cordle C 65
Justin Pugh T 65
Will Beatty T 65
Eli Manning QB 65
Victor Cruz WR 56
Hakeem Nicks WR 53
Brandon Myers TE 48
Andre Brown RB 48
Bear Pascoe TE 30
John Connor FB 28
Rueben Randle WR 20
Peyton Hillis RB 17
James Brewer G 15
Jerrel Jernigan WR 4
Louis Murphy WR 3
Larry Donnell TE 3

Takeaways: The conservative, run-first nature of what the Giants did on offense is reflected in Rueben Randle's playing time. Randle averaged 37.75 snaps in the first eight games, but played only 20 Sunday.Bear Pascoe (30) and James Brewer (15 snaps as an extra tight end) got a lot of those snaps. Andre Brown took 48 snaps, two-thirds of the Giants' offensive plays.

Player Pos. Snaps
Jon Beason LB 57
Prince Amukamara CB 56
Will Hill S 56
Antrel Rolle S 56
Jacquian Williams LB 44
Trumaine McBride CB 44
Jason Pierre-Paul DE 42
Justin Tuck DE 40
Linval Joseph DT 38
Cullen Jenkins DT 37
Keith Rivers LB 36
Mathias Kiwanuka DE 36
Mike Patterson DT 22
Terrell Thomas CB 20
Johnathan Hankins DT 14
Ryan Mundy FS 13
Spencer Paysinger LB 13
Damontre Moore DE 2
Mark Herzlich LB 1

Takeaways: I know, I know, I know already. You guys will skip all the way to the bottom of the defensive table, see the two snaps Damontre Moore played on defense and have a cow. Fact is, Jason Pierrre-Paul, Justin Tuck and Mathias Kiwanuka all played well. Kiwanuka's late-game strip sack was the final nail in Oakland's coffin. It is what it is. Moore is a terrific athlete and may one day be an excellent defensive end. Due to injuries he had virtually no preseason and has had limited practice time during the regular season. He is behind and, as a result, not playing as much as he -- or the Giants -- would like.

I am interested in a couple of other things. It is very clear Will Hill (56 snaps) and Jacquian Williams (44 snaps) are now full-time members of the defense. Former starters Spencer Paysinger and Ryan Mundy each got 13 snaps.
