Ouch!

Ever wonder what the most common injury is in football? Here's a summary of the 494 disclosed NFL injuries as of October 23, 2013. The most common injury involves a knee. Knee injuries account for almost a third of all injuries. Worse, knee injuries are the type of injury most likely to land a player on Injured Reserve. Hamstring injuries are fairly common too, accounting for about a tenth of all injuries, but a player is much less likely to be placed on IR because of a thigh injury.

Here's an overview of the number of injuries each team currently has. The 49ers and the Patriots have the most injuries but still have a high winning percentage. The undefeated Chiefs, for comparison, have half as many injuries. Injuries are part of the game but some teams cope with them better than others do. Still, there is no correlation between the numbers of injuries and team winning percentages. It's much more complicated than that.
