David Baas placed on injured reserve by New York Giants

David Baas - USA TODAY Sports

Baas suffered a knee injury Monday against the Vikings that will require season-ending surgery.

The New York Giants announced this afternoon that center David Baas, who suffered a knee injury Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings, has been placed on injured reserve. Baas will undergo surgery to repair the damage to his knee. The Giants have not yet announced a replacement on the 53-man roster for Baas.

Baas was injured on the final play of the Giants' game-opening 17-play drive Monday night.

"It’s very frustrating, to say the least," Baas said. "You work so hard. We said we can’t catch a break."

Baas, 32, played in only three of the Giants' seven games this season. He missed four games with a neck injury and returned to the lineup Monday.

Baas missed time in the preseason due to an MCL injury and said this injury is "similar."

"It’s worse, though. I’m just thankful my ACL is intact because I would have been really ticked off. It’s tough. As corny as it sounds, you get knocked down, but you’ve got to get back up every time."

Jim Cordle, who started three of the four games Baas missed earlier this season, takes over as the starting center.
