Big Blue View Mailbag: Ripping Jerry Reese

Jerry Reese - The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

What has Jerry Reese's role been in the current 0-6 disaster that is the New York Giants? We will examine over the next few days.

I received the following e-mail from a reader on Friday, pretty much shredding New York Giants' general manager Jerry Reese. It's lengthy, but worth reading.

I would like to see one article written about your rating of Jerry Reese as GM. There is enough blame to go around for this team failure the past 12 games but I see little or no being placed on Reese. As GM his responsibility is to put together the team, manage the salary cap and select free agents. From what he has put on the field the last two year this roster is a travesty.

I always blamed GM Jerry Reese. Before the season, I thought the Giants could win seven or eight games, because they had Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin, but this team was flawed going in.

Justin Tuck hasn't been a strong player since 2010. Jason Pierre-Paul had back surgery this summer and doesn't look like himself for the second straight year. The linebackers aren't legit starters. (New York just traded for Jon Beason a TBD at this point.) The defensive backfield is weak. So is the offensive line. And yes, David Wilson has been a bust.

Oh, and Eli just played the worst games I've seen him play since his rookie year.

It was a bad brew. I feel terrible for Coughlin and am not quite sure why Reese doesn't get more blame. The Giants are done. Reese's draft motto of "best player on the board" has never made sense to me. It's just been his way of justifying his picks and he has gotten way too "cute" over the years. Success has made him arrogant. Too many 2, 3, and 4 mid round draft busts over his tenure as GM.

Oh the irony. Reese has ignored the OlIne and it is now a disaster for an team who absolutely must have certain pieces or he can't function. Reese doesn't give the team the right playmakers it needs to succeed.

And like Antonio Pierce said, this Giants defense has no meat I.e. LB's in the middle. It's an empty sandwich. The arrogance of this GM has come home to roost and it is infuriating to watch. A SB countdown clock, really?

Give me one article about your opinion of Reese performance and in the bye week ask him the tough questions about his performance.

I am not going to do it here, but between now and the Giants' next game, Monday, Oct. 21 at MetLife Stadium against the Minnesota Vikings, I will offer you a complete breakdown of the Giants' roster and of the work done by Reese over the past several seasons.
