Marc Ross, Dave Gettleman rumors: Carolina is calling

Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson - Streeter Lecka

The Carolina Panthers could be about to hire a Giants' executive to be general manager. The question is, which one?

It appears that a New York Giants executive is the front-runner for the job as general manager of the Carolina Panthers. The problem is figuring out which one.

Carolina, where former Giants' general manager Ernie Accorsi is playing a key role in searching for a GM, has expressed in both Giants Director of College Scouting Marc Ross and Senior Pro Personnel Analyst Dave Gettleman. Cat Scratch Reader says that there have been conflicting reports about which of the two Giants' execs the team prefers.

Taking an educated guess, Cat Scratch Reader opines that Gettleman, 62, might have the edge simply because of the track record of Panthers owner Jerry Richardson.

Of the two potential general managers it appears Dave Gettleman makes the most sense. While he may not be the name that conjures the most excitement, he is the most logical. Jerry Richardson is a creature of habit, and his past history has been to look at pro scouting, and player personnel -- rather than an executive with a college scouting background.

No telling how this plays out, but Giants general manager Jerry Reese could be about to lose one of his key personnel people.
