NFL.com ranks the New York Giants' 17-14 victory over the previously 18-0 New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII as the second-greatest Super Bowl of all time. I don't know where I would put it on that list (maybe No. 1), but I know it is my favorite of the four Super Bowl titles the Giants have won.
Here is what NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt said about the game:
"So many small plays in a game can change a game," Gil Brandt says. "What if they had called in-the-grasp on Eli (Manning)? What if (David) Tyree doesn't trap the ball against his helmet? What if Asante Samuel doesn't worry about getting his feet down and catches the (interception)?"
What if? What if? What if? None of it matters. All that matters in the end is what happened -- the 12-point underdog Giants playing David and slaying the mighty Goliath that the Patriots were thought to be, and thought themselves to be.
