2013 NFL Draft Results: Giants select Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State in Round 2

Johnathan Hankins - Greg Bartram-US PRESSWIRE

The Giants continued rebuilding their defensive line Friday by selecting Ohio State defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

The New York Giants used the 49th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft to selected Ohio State defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins.

The selection of Hankins with the 49th overall pick continues a re-structuring of the interior of the Giants' defense. The Giants allowed Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard to leave via free agency, and have added veterans Cullen Jenkins and Mike Patterson, along with re-signing Shaun Rogers after Rogers spent 2012 on IR.

Hankins is a 6-foot-3, 322-pound tackle. In his prospect profile of Hankins, Jesse Bartolis referred to him as an "athletic freak."

The primary question with Hankins appears to be consistency and intensity. Perhaps being in a veteran locker room will be the cure for that.

The Giants had other options with this pick, including Kansas State linebacker Arthur Brown and Boise State cornerback Jamar Taylor. The selections of Hankins here and Justin Pugh in the first round on Thursday make it obvious the Giants are intent on rebuilding the interior of their team.
