In a two-round NFL Mock Draft released on Tuesday, Rotoworld's Evan Silva selected Mississippi State cornerback Darius Slay for the New York Giants in the second round, 49th overall. Slay is a player who I have only recently seen connected to the Giants as a second-round possibility.
Unfortunately, Slay is currently dealing with torn meniscus apparently suffered during his Pro Day workout last month. In reporting the injury, Pro Football Talk says "Meniscus tears are fairly routine injuries for football players, and they are not regarded as serious."
Slay is the ranked 59th on Tony Pauline's TFY Draft Insider Big Board, seventh among cornerbacks, and carries a second-round grade. In analyzing the 6-foot, 192-pound Slay, Pauline writes:
Slay is a late bloomer who really came on as a senior then impressed NFL decision-makers with his combine performance. He offers a boatload of upside potential and could develop into a starter at the next level if coached properly.
Thoughts on Slay, Giants' fans? Do you like the potential? Are you turned off by the injury?
