2013 NFL Draft Prospect Profile: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan

Could the next Joe Staley be available in this draft? - Jeff Zelevansky

Big Blue View continues looking at 2013 NFL Draft prospects. Today, we look at Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Fisher.

Very early in the 2013 NFL Draft process Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric fisher looked like he should be available when the New York Giants were on the clock with the 19th pick as he was the fourth-best rated offensive tackle behind Luke Joeckel and Jake Matthews of Texas A&M, and Michigan offensive tackle Jake Lewan. However, both Lewan and Matthews returned to school, making Fisher the second-highest rated offensive tackle. While he still be available when the Giants pick and is he worth the selection? Let's use today's 2013 NFL Draft prospect profile to discuss that.

Pros

Fisher has good size and has slowly, continuously added weight onto his frame throughout college. Fisher was absolutely dominating at Central Michigan and has "left tackle feet", meaning an ability to mirror and match up athletically with the athletic pass rushers he'll face in the NFL on a consistent basis. Fisher has the arm length (34 inches) and hand size (10 3/8 inches) teams desire in their offensive linemen. Fisher is a natural bender and is very good in the open field.

Cons

At the upper edges of preferred height -- will have to make sure he remains great in his technique and plays with good leverage. He does not have elite body strength to be a dominating run blocker, even though he has the demeanor for it and it should come with improved technique and an NFL strength training program.

Player comparison: Joe Staley (about everybody)

A better Nate Solder - Daniel Jeremiah (NFL Network)

Does He Fit With The Giants?

Sure does. Fisher fits with every team. He's a very good athlete for the left tackle position and based on his early work in Senior Bowl practices is just as dominating against better competition as he was against his opponents at Central Michigan.

Final Thought

Fisher looked like a perfect match for the Giants (if they don't re-sign Will Beatty) prior to the draft process, but he has been very impressive at the Senior Bowl and is going to remove any concerns about his competition level. Being the second-best tackle in this class he might no longer be available when the Giants pick at No. 19.
