A Friendly Outsider's View on JJ12

Hey guys. I'm a commentor over at the Browns blog at Dawgs By Nature, but I also went to Troy so I like to keep an eye on my Trojans. Obviously, with studs like Osi and Tynes already with you guys, I was excited when you took Jerrel. Having watched almost every collegiate game of his, I can tell you - the kid can ball. I'm really not much of a homer for Troy players, in fact some times I'm a little harsh. I didn't think Sherrod Martin with ever play in the NFL and I sure didn't think Steve McClendon would (although I thought Levi Brown was destined for a Pro Bowl).

Jerrel can rush, he can catch, he can get great YAC, he can LEAD, and YES, he can return punts and kicks. I have followed the conversation a little bit on ere about him and a lot of JJ's detractors have been citing a muffed punt... really, guys? Theres a lot of things that change in the NFL but the simple ability to catch a ball thats falling out of the air isn't really one of them. He made a mistake - it happens. I'm kind of reminded of another Troy player in the NFL muffing a punt, but that was against an undefeated NE team and resulted in his home being vandalized.

The light hasn't switched for him yet. I think it may be the culture shock and pressure... its a big jump from the Sun Belt in sleepy Troy, Alabama (population 14k) to New York City and the NFC East! Jerrel has showed a lot of progress in practice from my understanding and I would bet that by midseason, you guys will all know why it was he was drafted so high and why he made the cut - cus he can play! Looking forward to seeing Jerrel (a true class act) excel along with his other Troy brethren up the great New York City! Good luck guys from a former Troy student and Browns fan! Hope to see you in the super bowl! (HA)
