So I'm sitting here perusing our beloved site (and I mean the actual definition of perusing, not the interpreted one) while watching a replay of the Eagles-Pats game from Monday night. We're all very excited to see not just what we will do, but how we can get back to the promised-land. There will be obstacles. There will be losses. There will be injuries. There will be replacement refs. We all feel confident that we have every capability of doing it again, but no one is going to give it to us. As we anticipate our title defense, I've decided to start discussing some of the teams who stand in our way. So let's be objective and see what teams will pose the biggest threat to our throne. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
I'm going to go ahead and start this mini series with the Eagles. Yes, the Dream Team. Those guys we just love to hate, and for such good reason. This is a good football team and you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. We have to play these guys twice a year, occasionally a third, and all too often it doesn't end in our favor. We got off the schnide a little bit last year by cementing a real rough start to the perennial offseason champs with Victor Cruz's coming out party. And then we stubbed our toes the second time around to, of all people, the herald of greatness that is Vince Young.
This year's Iggles have the benefit of a year together now. There was no strike to stunt their growth, and they finished as strong as their start was poor. This defense can get after the QB, can stop the run, and have a veteran secondary that is going to make you earn it. Offensively, Vick (when healthy) is one of the hardest QBs in the game to plan for. Shady and Desean have already taken the baton passed from Westbrook and Mitchell as the next Giant killers. And they seem as deep on both sides of the ball as I can remember.
I'm not afraid of the Eagles. I'm a Giants fan, I don't fear anyone. I said when we beat Dallas for the NFC title last year that this was a team who wanted to play another week, and as long as they played like that, there wasn't a team in this league we couldn't beat. And we took that and rode that play onto our 4th Super Bowl title (oh **** yeah, I never get tired of saying that...we still the Champs, baby!). But you have to be prepared for a fight, and there are few teams in this league that consistently step to each other the way these two teams do.
I now turn this to you, my brethren, what say you about our fiercest rivals?
