Since I have made this for my blog I thought I would ask what BBV readers think of my first preview of the 53 men roster. I thought it was a bit tricky and I definitely need to see more preseason games to make up my mind.
NB: I have assumed that guys like Chris Canty and Travis Beckum will remain on the PUP. Also note that Tyler Sash has been suspended for 4 games so he won't count in the roster.
(locks are in bold)
Offense (25) :
QB (2) : Eli Manning, David Carr
RB (4) : Ahmad Bradshaw, David Wilson, D.J. Ware, Da'Rell Scott
Not sure about Scott yet. He was drafted low last year but showed some nice stuff but I haven't read/seen a lot from him this preseason. Brown is ahead of him on the depth chart last time I checked but I suspect the Giants will prefer to hold on Scott rather than Brown.
FB (1) : Henry Hynoski
WR (6) : Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle, Domenik Hixon, Jerrel Jernigan, Ramses Barden
I wanted to put David Douglas too but I couldn't. The guy is having a nice TC in my opinion but didn't get many opportunities against the Jets unfortunately. Hopefully he'll be able to show off his talent tonight. Regarding, I don't see the Giants cutting this tease but still Barden isn't making plays. He's kind of a semi-lock if you will.
TE (3) : Martellus Bennett, Adrien Robinson, Bear Pascoe
OL (9) : Chris Snee, David Baas, Kevin Boothe, Sean Locklear, David Diehl, Will Beatty, James Brewer, Jim Cordle/Mitch Petrus, Matt McCants/Brandon Mosley
Defense (25) :
DT (5) : Linval Joseph, Marvin Austin, Dwayne Hendricks, Markus Kuhn, Rocky Bernard
I think Hendricks and Kuhn have shown a lot of good things to earn a spot in this team. There are still 2 games to be played but so far so good. I would be surprised if they are waived. It would be too risky to try to put them on practice squad.
DE (4) : Jason Pierre-Paul, Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Adrian Tracy
Kind of a no-brainer here. Tracy has not locked his spot yet but he is heading the right direction. I did not check is status though: is he back in practice or still injured? It will be hard to get a spot if he can't play.
I also would not be surprised if the Giants just go with Tuck, JPP and Osi and put Kiwi back on the line. This will depend on how things pan out with the LB. Kiwi is already used to play both position anyway.
LB (7) : Keith Rivers, Michael Boley, Mathias Kiwanuka, Mark Herzlich, Chase Blackburn, Jacquian Williams, Greg Jones/Spencer Paysinger
CB (5) : Corey Webster, Terrell Thomas, Prince Amukamara, Jayron Hosley, Michael Coe
I have also considered adding one more CB.
S (4) : Antrel Rolle, Kenny Phillips, Will Hill, whoever steps up
As I said above, Sash is suspended for the 4 first game of the regular season. Don't know if that will get him cut or if the Giants will patiently save a spot for him. Either way, they usually go with 4 S. I haven't been looking very much at the S besides Will Hill so there is a spot that is up for grabs IMO.
Special Team (3) :
K (1) : Lawrence Tynes
P (1) : Steve Weatherford
LS (1) : Zak DeOssie
