Good morning fellow Giants fans. We are just three days away from the start of the NFL draft, something that is always an exciting time if you follow football in either the college or pro variety--it's the one event where the two sort of collide, meaning you have a lot of Mel Kiper, Jr. talking NFL (has that guy's hair changed in 20 years?). Anyway, let's see what bits of Giants related news are floating around the Internet this morning.....
NY Giants feel right at home with 32nd pick in NFL Draft, Big Blue looks to select 'best player' on their board - NY Daily News
There’s only one downside to winning the Super Bowl and it comes on draft day every year when the champs are stuck with the last pick of every round. Not that Jerry Reese is complaining. It worked out pretty well for his Giants four years ago. "The last time we picked 32 we picked some pretty good players that have helped us win a lot of football games," the Giants GM said. "We picked Kenny Phillips, Terrell Thomas and Mario Manningham. We got Jon Goff in that draft, too. So there are good players. You just have to look deep and find them."
NFL Draft 2012 -- New York Giants have holes to fill on offense - ESPN New York
Since the Eli Manning era began in 2004, the New York Giants have gone defense with their first pick in six of the past seven drafts. Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is the only offensive player the Giants have taken with the first pick they possessed (first or second round, as was the case in 2005) since they traded Philip Rivers for Manning in 2004.
Draft preview: Special teams - Giants Blog - ESPN New York
This is the sixth installment in a nine-part series that will analyze the Giants' needs, position by position, in the upcoming draft. Position: Special teams.
Metro - Playing the Field: Tebow's new digs, Ozzie suspension video
Since every move of Tim Tebow must now be documented with exacting detail, we learned this weekend that Tebow has found a new home in the New York area. And this time he's breathing down New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning's neck instead of his teammate Mark Sanchez. Tebow is renting an apartment in Hoboken, N.J. that runs in the neighborhood of $10,000 per month.
The jokes just write themselves here.
NFL.com news: Playoff loss to Giants still eats at Clay Matthews
Clay Matthews wasn't among the millions who watched Super Bowl XLVI, but he was on the field for the Green Bay Packers' loss to the New York Giants in the NFC divisional playoffs. It still tears at him, to reexamine how Green Bay came undone against an underdog -- the very role they played to perfection one year earlier to win Super Bowl XLV. The 15-1 Packers shifted into autopilot when it mattered most against the Giants, and Matthews lives with it still.
New York Giants and Norte Dame S Harrison Smith a Match? - NFL Mocks - Covering the 2012 NFL draft, Mock Draft Database, Scouting Reports, and Fantasy Football
Harrison Smith is widely considered the second best safety in the class and I never really considered him an option for the Giants until last week when I read two people I respect link Smith to the Giants.
NFL.com news: Brandon Jacobs remains 2 Fast, 2 Furious in New Jersey
"The (New Jersey) State Police are investigating complaints that two troopers escorted a caravan of luxury sports cars at speeds in excess of 100 mph down the Garden State Parkway to Atlantic City last month. The occupants included former Giants running back and sports car enthusiast Brandon Jacobs, according to a source with knowledge of the trip."
Uh-oh. Do you guys think Jacobs has received a phone call yet from coach Harbaugh about this?
That is pretty funny. But my first thought was, will the residents of Oxford be annoyed that they have to slow down to 10 MPH?
Have a great Monday, folks....time to get your draft game faces out!
