So, with the recent acquisition of Keith Rivers via trade with the Bengals, it has risen some questions on how the LB corps will shake out. Prospective starters at Will, Sam, and Mike have been argued upon and debated, depth charts and so on and so forth. First let's take a look at what we already have...
The Giants LB corps is as follows:
Greg Jones
Keith Rivers
Clint Sintim
With the acquisition of Rivers, it has been presumed Johnathan Goff is all but gone. Rivers has played WILL throughout his entire NFL career, but Boley is currently the starter there. According to Jerry Reese, the Giants are contemplating moving Boley to MIKE thus freeing up the Weakside, but then there's Jacquian Williams whom --for a rookie-- demonstrated some serious potential in limited snaps. Also, there's Paysinger, but he's at the bottom of the depth chart there. So there are some tough decisions to make.
Now, at MIKE we have Chase as the last known starter, with Jones and Herzlich also listed as possible candidates. It's more than likely Chase will not be our starting MLB this season, whether it be Herzlich (Whom I would like to see win the job) or Jones, and maybe even Boley that end up in the middle.
At SAM, there's Kiwi, Herzlich and Rivers has also been suggested as a possible SAM. Relative to the other Linebacking positions, the Strongside doesn't have AS many suitors, which makes that situation simpler. It's even been theorized that Kiwi may be moved back to DE --Which is most likely to foreshadow and Osi trade-- if Rivers is indeed his replacement at SAM. So, there's an alternate scenario where it's simply between Herz and Rivers. Oh, and oft-injured Clint Sintim is still as possibility, although with his injury history, his future is the most uncertain of all the Linebackers on the roster.
Now, here's the figurative wrench in the entire LBing scenario; As I stated previously, it looks as though Johnathan Goff is all but gone. He's obviously worked out for possible suitors, but has yet to receive a contract. Why? Too many variables to determine. So, what happens if the Giants still have a deal on the table, and Goff --after exploring FA-- accepts the deal?
Goff has played MIKE and also has the skills and size to be a SAM.
So, I want you guys to play Head Coach. What would you do given the Linebackers on the roster and how each would fit into the overall team dynamic and defensive scheme? Obviously, there would be some serious competition, but that's beside the point.
Essentially, what I'm asking is; What is your ideal LBing corps given the added variable of Johnathan Goff?
