The feel-good story of Chase Blackburn will continue with the Giants. Source says the veteran LB has agreed to a 1-yr deal to return. #nyg— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) April 13, 2012
Blackburn made 28 tackles and one interception in five regular-season games after returning to the Giants late in the season when Mark Herzlich suffered a broken ankle. He made 19 tackles in four postseason games, and had a critical interception in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.
The play of Blackburn, 28, a seven-year veteran, was a key to the late-season turnaround of the Giants' defense.
I am mildly surprised that Blackburn is returning to the Giants, especially after the deal earlier this week for Keith Rivers. It seems likely that the Giants see that they erred in not keeping him from the start a season ago, as his veteran presence and special teams ability make him a valuable player whether he is a regular on defense or not.
