Im kinda getting tired of this guy complaining about being a backup etc. Honestly, if he didnt have JPP spelling him I dont think he would have all the success he does now. He is oft injured, and may not be an all-star on running plays. I understand he is an above average player but is it worth his mouth and malcontent every year from a 30 year old DE. Besides I dont believe we have the cap room to resign him to a bigger contract.
On another note, we signed Kieth Rivers. Hypothetically speaking, this can be a pre-cursor to Kiwi moving to DE because of the depth we have at LB, and Osi being traded on draft day. Kiwi can play the run and is good at rushing the passer. Possible early round draft of a DE as well.
If Osi is traded, I think we can get a third and maybe another pick in the later rounds or next year plus free up some cap space. There is probably a handful of teams who need a pass rushing DE that would be happy with his production. Also, they would most likely have the cap room to give him the contract he wants.
My opinion is Osi should be traded. One, he is on the later end of his career. Two, he sounds unhappy here especially for someone who just won his second super bowl. Three, at this point in his career we may be able to get decent value for a trade. He probably has 2 more solid years left and in a full time gig (which is what he wants) he may be hurt more often and have half the success. Fourth, if we keep him this year (and he doesnt hold out), next year we either need to sign him to a big contract or let him go for nothing. Finally, The next few years we are going to have many signings to make Cruz, Nicks etc. We need some cap room to offer them decent contracts as well if we want to keep them.
