Let's add another tight end to our list of 2012 NFL Draft Prospect Profiles. This time we will look at a player who could fill the role the New York Giants hoped Travis Beckum would grow into the past few seasons -- the H Back or moving tight end, a guy who could create match-up issues for opposing defenses.

We will look today at Michael Egnew of Missouri, a 6-foot-5, 252-pound tight end who is a converted wide receiver.

From CBS Sports:

The tight end position is changing at both the college and pro levels. More than half of the 13 tight ends selected in the 2011 draft weighed less than 250 pounds, and most of them measured 6-4 or greater. That sort of lean pass-receiving threat, once considered a slow receiver-tight end 'tweener, is exactly what Egnew's new team looks forward to adding to their offensive arsenal in April.

Egnew has shown nice athleticism for his size since being a football, basketball and track standout as a high schooler in Texas. That athleticism, as well as his height and strong hands, make him a valuable weapon down the seam as well as a red-zone target worth an early-round selection.

From Wes Bunting of the National Football Post:

Has a long frame and the skill set to learn to play with his hand on the ground, but is going to need time. Isn't the type of dynamic athlete either to simply out run NFL defenders and looks limited in the type of routes he's going to be able to separate in. More of a vertical threat guy who needs to adjust to the ball in order to make plays.

NFL.com says:

Egnew is an athletic, tall prospect similar to recent NFL successes in that he is somewhat underweight but creates mismatches up and down the field. A converted receiver, Egnew has struggled with traditional tight end responsibilities, such as blocking in-line and being an overall run-game presence. He is athletic for his size and presents a speed mismatch on linebackers and a size mismatch on safeties, which will ultimately define his value in this year's draft.
