Another BGN gem

“Giants played most of the year with Osi, Blaylock and Tuck injured or at way less then 90%, and alot of other players on IL, the players came back for the playoffs and the 3 games before it The Eagles were fairly injury free during the year, and were generally crap, except for 4 wins that did not mattered, against team that had given up… As Reid said”

Every close game comes down to. 5 or 6 plays

The Giants win so we focus on the 5 or 6 that could have changed it, BUT …

How about this:

1) Boothe’s hold – I’m not saying it wasn’t a hold, but there are worse holds on virtually every play these days. If that flag is choked, Giants get another 3 at least, Pats get no chance to score. Half ends 12-3

2) The really bad uncalled PI on Moore – don’t know about about anyone else, but I wish our DBs were invisible. That guy doesn’t even try to play the ball, he just chops the WR. The shoulder pre catch is auto PI, that easily could have made it 19-10

3) even if Welker catches it and scores, Giants get the ball back 19-18, and don’t even have to score the TD, they run out the clock. game over

You could probably add in Two other plays and generate a score of 33-18. Then it’s a rout.

The luck game never illuminates anything

You guys will enjoy this tidbit from Facebook...

A friend of mine works for the Pats in their warehouse. After their loss, his job is over until the summer when orders for gear come in again. On his FB page last night he posted

So..anyone hiring??

As a joke, I put “Yeah, the Champion New York Giants.”

Apparently he now thinks my intent was to make fun of him losing his job and he proceeded to flood my wall with ridiculous posts saying I lack class, am immature, calling me as asshole, etc.

Nice to know one joke can set a weak minded Pats fan off so bad. LOL

Eli Manning is the opposite of Lebron James. If you ask Lebron for change for a dollar, he only gives you 75c because he doesnt have a fourth quarter. When Eli asks for change, he only takes one quarter because thats all he's gonna need.

But, you have to admit, if you had the Packers defense instead of the Giants defense, you would be bringing home no trophy this year. Eli is what he is. He didn’t deserve the SB MVP in ‘07 & he didn’t deserve it this time. I don’t know why you think complimenting your defense is insulting Eli.

Against the 3rd worst defense in the history of the NFL.

Chad Henne
Philip Rivers
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Jason Campbell
Tony Romo
Ben Roethlisberger

"Skip, once again, stop it; Be an analyst; don't be a douchebag."

by Wiedmann on Feb 7, 2012 5:23 PM EST up reply actions

So what more did you want Eli to do??

Complete a higher % of his passes? Oh Wait, he completed the 2nd highest percentage EVER for a QB attempting at least 40 passes!
Set records? OH Wait, how about the most consecutive completions to start a SB!
Throw for more yards? Oh Wait, Eli threw for 10 less yards than Rodgers the year before!
Less turnovers? Oh Wait, Eli didn’t have ANY!

So he didn’t have a bunch of TDs but you know what he did do? He led his team down the field in the final minutes of the SB to score the go ahead TD AGAIN! I’d like you to tell me why you think Eli didn’t have a good performance in the SB, and try using facts, not your bitter tears as support!

by eyerish9299 on Feb 8, 2012 8:45 AM EST up reply actions

He was lucky his defense held the Patriots to 17 (and scored two points on their own)

He led his team to 19 points. He wouldn’t have had the go-ahead TD if his defense didn’t shut down the Patriots.

Here’s a list of teams who averaged 19 points or less last season:
Ind (2-14)
StL (2-14)
TB (4-12)
Cle (4-12)
Was (5-11)
Jac (5-11)
KC (7-9)

and if you think I was bitter about the outcome of the SB, you’re dead wrong.

Here we go again.

When we mention QB you change to team and when team is being discussed you jump to qb. You do not even do apple to oranges you do trees to stones.

While looking up QBs who are one and out you may want to look up that overrated favre your team had., Yes that interception machine that Eli beat at championship game right in your house. This was followed by Eli beating another of your returning champ QB Rodgers at your own house. Eli is the ONLY qb who has beaten Packers at their own own multiple times.

You just hate the Giants and are jealous of our QB Eli.

by BB1156 on Feb 11, 2012 11:31 PM EST up reply actions

I do not hate the Giants

I am in no way jealous of Eli.

Favre was an interception machine, no doubt. He definitely cost the Packers some playoff games with his boneheaded interceptions. You agree that Favre was an interception machine. His career int% was 3.3% What’s Eli’s career Int%, you ask? Well, it’s 3.3%. So, if you think Favre is an interception machine, you’d be a hypocrite to think that Eli is not.

Incidentally, Favre’s TD% was 5.0%, Eli’s is lower, 4.7%

and you accuse me of switching between talking about team vs QB, yet “Eli” beat the Packers twice?

13.

Farve's average per year INTS were much higher than Eli's

You can put all kinds of words you want defending yourself but you are the only fan of another team that is coming and posting against the Giants and Eli here. In fact you are going out of your way to do so.

You are having difficulty letting go that your team was beat on playoffs twice by Eli. He beat your two superbowl QBs in your own house.

Your assumptions about me are quite incorrect

You accused me of comparing “vegetation to minerals”, and here you are comparing Favre’s career to Eli’s 1st 8 seasons. Here’s how the two QB’s stack up through their first 8 seasons:
Eli: (69-50)
2291/3921 (58.4%); 27579; 185 TD/129 Int; 7.0 ypa; 82.1 rating

Favre: (74-35)
2318/3756 (61.7%); 26803; 213 TD/118 Int; 7.1 ypa; 89.1 rating

Interceptions by season (ordered from highest to lowest):
Eli: 25, 20, 18, 17, 16, 14, 10, 9*
Favre: 24, 23, 16, 14, 13, 13, 13, 2*

Yahtzee

1.) Stop back tracking.

2.) Leave Eli alone. The man is the best quarterback in the NFL, and has as many (or more depending on whom you consider the best) Superbowl rings as the greatest QB in your history.

3.) The Packers have 13 titles. Most in history, and thus are the best in the category that matters most. Unless this changes, the fan base would be advised to give non-spiteful credit where due (especially to those who give your team the same) when they aren’t on top and else-wise bite your collective tongue.

Eli was great in the game. He even set superbowl passing record in this game. Now he also hold the post season passing yards record in NFL.

Eli was brilliant in both the games we played against the Patriots this year. He stepped up when he needed to and he delivered us the victory both times over a team that has been labelled as best offense ever.

In the superbowl he completed 30 of 40 passes with TD and no int. He ran the offense well and engineered a very long go ahead TD drive when the game had come down to wire.

Once again, you are picking on Eli on our site while we do not even bother to comment about your quarterback on your site. It must really hurt you that your team was one and out after a 15-1 season as a returning champ when everyone was picking your team to repeat.

Here is a winning formula for your team: Do NOT play New York Giants in the post season or you will lose. Eli is the only QB in NFL history to go to your stadium to have multiple post season victories. Is this why you have to criticize him?

Where did Packer fans say that the Giants would get blown out on BBV?

I never said it & I never saw any APCer say anything close to that here either. In fact, in the description of http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/1/8/2692612/ask-a-packer-fan-divisional-round-edition

the general consensus over at APC seems to be that you guys have the best shot at upsetting us of all the teams left in the NFC.

There were no posts saying that the Packers would blow out the Giants

None I saw, at least. I read quite a bit of BBV leading up to the game, and I saw nothing of the sort. If there were “lots of posts”, it shouldn’t be too hard to find at least one, now would it?

and just because you keep saying it doesn’t make it true.

regular season defense.

And plus, only 3 or something other players had a completion percentage above 75% in the superbowl.

Can you make the case for other players? Definitely. Is it asinine that Eli won? Absolutely not

What's your point?

They destroyed one terrible QB and barely beat one just-kinda-Ok QB… neither of which is fit to hold Eli’s game-worn jock. They’re not a great defense, but they were still getting to Eli quite a bit in the game. Did he cower from them? Did he throw up in the huddle? Did he lay down on the field? Did he discount double-choke like your QB did? HELL. NO.

Ice water, baby. Straight, unfiltered, bottled-at-the-source ice water. Flowing straight through his veins. He made huge plays. He made plays most “elite” QBs could never even dream of. And he kept attacking, and attacking, and attacking. No matter what. Just like he did all season. Just like he’s done for the majority of his career. If that’s not an MVP, I have no idea what is. He’s not Drew Brees. He’s not Aaron Rodgers. He’s not Tom Brady. And I thank God everyday for that.

The Broncos offense ran all over them the first game

and the Ravens offense is one that would normally take advantage of the Patriots defense.

It’s a stupid argument because if the packers defense wasn’t lights out last year than you guys wouldn’t have won the superbowl either.

Eli didn't deserve it?

Oh, his 30-40 performance just under 300 yards wasn’t worthy? No turnovers, making passes in tight spots, and as always, that great 4th quarter drive at the end of the game we’re all so used to.

No it shouldn’t have, it could have, but it didn’t.
The Giants didn’t NEED to score to catch up with the Patriots in the 2nd quarter, it wasn’t a situation where if they didn’t score on every drive for the rest of the game then they would’ve lost. It’s clear that Eli plays better when the pressure is on, it’s literally undeniable. The Patriots were playing their defense to not give up the big play, they were playing well for a while, then Eli HAD to score, and he did, just like he always does, which is why if I NEED to score, I’m calling Eli, not #12.

Instant classic!!!
I wouldn’t put most of them into specific numbers, by there are categories, I suppose.

And I’ll link to their career stats, to help illustrate, but I don’t base solely on stats. For comparison’s sake, here’s Eli. If I’m starting a team from scratch, I take all of these guys before Eli.

Te, since Eli isn’t part of it 4 total
Rodgers, Brady, Peyton, Brees

Not quite there 5 Total
Cutler If he had receivers and/or a line, he’d be phenomenal
Stafford Does anyone disagree with this?
Schaub Elevated by Andre, but still excellent
Vick Now that he’s matured, just keep him healthy
Rivers (like him or not, and I don’t, he’s very, very good)

Better than Eli, or soon will be 5 total
Romo Yes, I know, but he’s been consistently better than Eli
Matt Ryan Younger, better, and getting better
Newton He’s raw, and he’s already able to elevate those around him. I was wrong about this guy. When he matures, he’ll be outstanding, possibly elite
Andy Dalton If the Bengals ever give him anything to work with, or pretend he has Eli’s supporting cast
Sam Bradford See Dalton, Andy

Undecided
Alex Smith He’s done well for having only Vernon Davis to throw to

Am I allowed to use Matt Flynn, Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin? If so, check back next year and add in Matt Barkley.

Eli Manning is the opposite of Lebron James. If you ask Lebron for change for a dollar, he only gives you 75c because he doesnt have a fourth quarter. When Eli asks for change, he only takes one quarter because thats all he's gonna need.

As I said elsewhere

depends on how you define elite. He is elite if you look at getting the job done with the team, getting Ws, putting them in a position to win (even when they don’t… how close did he come against Seattle and San Fran?), and making timely plays, more often than not. If you want to go pure stats route, he is a very good QB. Regardless of how you rank it, I am extremely pleased with Eli as the Giants QB, and that is all you can ask of the starting QB on your favourite team.

Yeah, there's this 2009 season he had in his 2nd season starting.

4434 yards, 64.7%, 8.2 ypa, 103.2 rating, 30 TDs and only 7 int
for comparison; Manning’s 2nd full season starting:
3244 yards, 57.7%, 6.2 ypa, 77.0 rating, 24 TDs; 18 int

What about in the playoffs that year, when he put up 423 yards & 4 TDs?

and it’s not like his first season starting was terrible, either
4038 yards, 63.6%, 7.5 ypa, 93.8 rating, 28 TDs; 13 int

and you want to talk about consistency? Rodgers worst season passing would be Eli’s:
yards: 4th best (Rodgers only played 14.5 games & was still only 100 yards from 2nd best)
comp %: 1st
ypa: 3rd best
rating: 1st
TDs: 3rd best
Int: 2nd lowest

but yeah, Rodgers is the overrated one…

So it's Eli's fault

he was drafted to a realtively shitty team? The Giants were 4-12 when they drafted Eli. They were ranked 30th in the league in offense. The year before Rodgers started (2007) the Packers were 13-3 with the 4th ranked offense in the league! Eli’s first full year as a starter he turns the Giants into an 11-5 team. What was Aaron Rodgers’ record his first full year starting? 6-10! Your hate for Eli is delicious! Keep hating! It just drives him more! Eli has set multiple SB records, the stats are too many to list… http://www.rantsports.com/clubhouse/2012/02/05/eli-te-manning-has-arrived-giants-set-super-bowl-records/"

by eyerish9299 on Feb 13, 2012 8:24 AM EST up reply actions

That's fair, thanks for at least contributing to the discussion before accusing me of being a hater

Rodgers’ first year starting, he actually had quite a few game winning drives that never were because his defense blew the lead.

Rodgers’ first full year starting, the offense put up 419 points. Manning’s first full year starting, the offense put up 422 points, a difference of a FG. Mason Crosby’s FG percentage that year was nearly 4 percentage points lower than Jay Feely’s (If you apply Feely’s percentage to Crosby’s # of attempts, he would have made an additional FG).

The defenses, however, were a different story. The Giants defense allowed 66 fewer points over the course of the season, which is no small significant number, over 4 points per game. 7 of the Packers’ 10 losses that year were by 4 points or less (assuming the points were equally distributed over each game, the 2008 Packers would have been 13-3, not 6-10).

This is, of course, ignoring Eli’s first 7 games starting where his record was 1-6. Rodgers’ record over his 1st 7 games was 4-3.
1st 7 starts:
Eli: 92/188 (48.9%); 977; 6 TDs/9 Int; 5.2 ypa; 55.2 rating
Rodgers: 145/221 (65.6%); 1668; 12 TDs/4 Int; 7.55 ypa; 98.8 rating

No question that the 2003 Giants were in dire need of a QB, after slogging through a season with Kerry Collins & Jesse Palmer, and Eli was an improvement over what they had. The defense also improved over that time period.

13.

by Wiedmann on Feb 13, 2012 7:33 PM EST up reply actions

I think you missed my point though...

Eli came into an ATROCIOUS team, and HELPED (obviously wasn’t all him) but the notion that the D was significantly better is just wrong. They only gave up 33 less points that year (stat that was boosted by a week 9 SO of the Skins and a week 10 whooping of the 9ners only giving up 6 points) . 2 points per game basically. That 2 points would have only factored into 1 game for them that year, a 1 point win against the Broncos. The Giants offense put up 100+ more points then it did the year before! 100!!!
