Safeties Coach Says Rolle 'Wanted Out'
This is an amazing story on Antrel Rolle, Dave Merritt and Rolle's finally being at peace as a member of the New York Giants. It's as good or better than anything else you will read between now and Super Bowl Sunday.

Trel wants to win, period. Like Jacobs, Osi, pain in the ass sometimes, but only because they want to win so badly.
I can't believe it took Rolle and Fewell that long to have that talk.
This story just shows that Fewell wasn’t flexible and didn’t make in-game adjustments just like how all of us were shouting all year. But I can’t believe that Rolle and his “me first” attitude was the reason for the defense playing like they were in the beginning and middle of the season. I see it as more of Fewell’s fault for our horrible defense. But I’m just stumped on why it took so long for them to have this conversation. Seems like both of them woke up and changed their mentality and attitude just in time.
3 man rush was a big part of the D's problem
dropping tuck into coverage, or JPP one-on-one with sproles, leaving QBs minutes to throw into a soft zone….

they could not adust becasue of the young backers. My Take, they should of brought Blackburn back right when Goff went down for the year. Sure the lack of DBs hurt but the young kids at LB were a real problem. JR has an eye for talent but sometimes they need to remember you need football players not just athletes/projects. Blackburn though slow and not very athletic would have helped being in the fold as we’ve seen since they’ve signed him.

yeah I remember
the week Goff got hurt they worked both Blackburn and Kawika Mitchell out. It was widely assumed the Giants were gonna sign Mitchell because he knows Fewell’s system and Blackburn was still not 100%

Thought it was standard TC, JR, loyality to the draft picks; hoping they’d come through even when a guy like Blackburn has been a CONSTANT “B” grade player at best, but one that you don’t find everday!!

All of the injuries to the DBs and the LBs tied their hands. They were trying to protect the back 7.

for a ‘story’ that is almost 2 months old. All this story does is prove Rolle was upset with the way adjustments (or lack of any) were being done on defense. Every beat writer that covers the Giants has know this since October.
Sure idiots like Lupica will right a story on this tomorrow, but at the end of the day, who really cares.

See I don't think it's a football story at all
We’ve been obsessed with whats going on with the Giants and the coverage schemes. So we focused on that bit. I think the real story is how Rolle has been changing and growing. He’s obviously a leader on defense. His buying into it, changing his attitude, I think that it was an important moment for Rolle. He went from being a voice of the defense, to a true leader.

Fewell may not be much for schemes but its to see he can relate to these guys on a human level, sometimes thats more important than anything. Good work coach Fewell and Coach Merrit.

While this is interesting and all
Its something of a non-story. It really doesn’t matter now.
The folks who didn’t like Rolle still won’t like him.
Those who do like him still will.
What I find interesting is what Coughlin had to say today on Superbowl Live on the NFLN about players getting used to him. He talked about guys like Stray who had to get used to his coaching style and had to learn to listen to him… And he did include he made a point to Rolle in the group of players who have adapted to him as he adapted to them.
To me, that’s the real story here, how the players came together for the team when faced with adversity, rather than crumbling, imploding, and collapsing while infighting and publicly throwing each other under the bus… as other teams have.
In short, when the going got tough, the tough got ALL IN!

They’re gonna test our commitment to covering him and try to catch us sleeping with single coverage by Kiwi & JWill. If it works, he knows we’ll have to make a concerted effort even tho he may not be 100%. Then they’ll do the hurry up & attack with everyone else while we’re paying too much attention to Gronk & in an unfavorable personnel package.
