This year's "red shirt" star

It has happened many times under Tom Coughlin

A lower draft choice or free agent pick-up usually on offense does nothing and gets hidden away on an injury list or the practice squad and emerges later as a big time contributor or in the case of Victor Cruz, a game breaking mega star. Has to do mostly with hidden talent recognized and being coached up. Last year Ballard, Pascoe, Boothe, and Cruz fit the description. In prior years you could mention Derick Ward, Ryan Grant, Hixon, etc.

there are a few candidates for 2012.

QB-Ryan Perrilloux. Hopefully after a trade or as a back-up and not as a replacement for Eli.

RB-Da’Rel Scott. Would be a classic description fit at a position of need.

WR-Isaiah Stanback and Dan DePalma. Ramses Barden?

TE-Christian Hopkins and Ryan Purvis

OL-Selvish Capers and James Brewer.
