In a 28-16 Week 2 victory over the St. Louis Rams that evened their record at 1-1, the New York Giants gave an indication of what type of season it would be for them. Often the Giants played down to the level of bad teams, and up to the level of good ones. Here, they largely played down to the level of the woeful Rams.
The Giants struggled early in this one, but a 65-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Michael Boley gave the Giants a 14-6 halftime lead. The play was a backward pass to Cadillac Williams that Boley scooped up and ran in for a score.
The game cost the Giants wide receiver Domenik Hixon, who made a brilliant touchdown catch that ended up ending his season. Strangely, that was another step toward the emergence of Victor Cruz.
This was also the 'Flop-Gate' game.
Rams quarterback Sam Bradford threw for 331 yards in this game and Giants cornerback Aaron Ross was briefly benched, leading to more concern over how the Giants would stop good passing attacks the remainder of the season.
Eli Manning completed 16 of his final 18 passes, beginning what would be a long stretch of brilliance for the Giants quarterback.
