New York Giants News And Notes: Chad Jones And More

Good morning, Super Bowl champion New York Giants fans! That phrase never gets old. Let's look around the Inter-Google for some news and notes related to the Giants.

Chad Jones will be at Giants' offseason program | New York Daily News
Chad Jones still has a long road back to an NFL field, but he hopes to be able to take the next steps on (or around) April 16.

The plan right now is for the injured safety to join the Giants' offseason workout program, which opens that day, nearly 22 months after he almost lost his leg in a horrific car accident. Jones has been rehabbing hard near his home in Louisiana and he's said many times he has his sights set on playing for the Giants in 2012.

Whether he can or not remains to be seen. At the offseason workout program at the Giants' Meadowlands practice facility he'll continue to rehab his injured left leg in the hopes that at some point he'll be able to pass the Giants' team physical. So far he hasn't, so it's impossible to know if he'll be ready to participate in any on-field spring workouts, mini-camp, or even training camp when it opens this summer.

Mike Sullivan drawn by Josh Freeman - NFC South Blog - ESPN
"I think everyone knows it is a quarterback-driven league,’’ Sullivan said. "No matter how you slice it -- and, ultimately, defense wins championships -- but you have to get a quarterback. I think a lot of things you look at with a guy like Josh Freeman -- the skill set he possesses, the youth, the ability, the size and the strength -- there is an awful lot there and I am chomping at the bit to work with.’’

You guys might laugh at this one. There was also word on Wednesday that the Buccaneers are interested in failed New York Giants defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan to potentially fill that role in Tampa Bay.

Indiana measles outbreak linked to Super Bowl village - ESPN
Indiana is battling its second measles outbreak in two years, even though its vaccination rate exceeds the national average. Health officials say the cases, traced to a Super Bowl event, illustrate just how vulnerable the public is to exposure from sources at home and abroad.

As a Chelsea supporter

I can only wait for the day that Sir Alex Ferguson retires and the Glazers do to Manchester United what they have done to the Bucs.

Better Dead Than Red

My Mom was English, but I picked up Chelsea as a kid from watching the 1970 FA Cup final on Wide World of Sports. I was a season ticket subscriber when I lived in London in 89-90, the year after Hillsborough, so it was the last year of standing on the terraces and the year before the Premier Legaue was formed.

I like Everton as well. If it wasn’t for a Russian billionaire, Chelsea would be where Everton are, hoping for the occasional top six finish or cup run, never in danger of relegation, just living for the rare days when they beat United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Come to think of it, that’s where they are this year…….Effin Torres

We don’t have much of a problem against the top 5 or 6, we just have a problem with the bottom 10, haha… Too inconsistent, we have tons of quality when they want to show up, but our owner is bringing us down, he pockets £10m+ annually and borrows against the clubs worth, then wonders why the clubs in debt. Absolute shame, being that there have been several times when we could have been considered the best club in the world throughout our history.

I hate manure and manshitteh.

I love this kid.

I was so excited when we drafted him back then. When word got out about his accident I was absolutely sickened, this is the greatest team in the world, sticking with him through his healin process and allowing him an opportunity to be an NFL player and commit to his dream.

He could have been a MLB player and chose the NFL. This guys a stud and could never commit to just football in college since he was a top baseball player and forced to shovel down pizzas before baseball games. Now that he’s had two years to dedicate to recovery and training I’m excited once again by the potential.

Yeah...I was shocked about the accident also..It sounds like he still has a long road ahead..

But I’m rooting for him…I thought we had an immediate impact player until he got hurt..I hope he can at least participate in the Spring mini…We’ll see..and yes the Giants are a class organization..They take care of their players..

The fact that he’s made it this far, when doctors said he could have lost his leg, tells me he has the willpower to do anything and will be an NFL player.

If signing a cancer survivor got us enough good fortune to win us a Super Bowl I can’t imagine what will happen when both he and the man who nearly lost his life in a car accident are playing for us. Our defense will strike with the hand of god.

1. Orson Charles, Georgia
2. Coby Fleener, Stanford
3. Dwayne Allen, Clemson
4. Deangelo Peterson, LSU
5. Ladarius Green, Louisiana-Lafayette

I thought Allen was viewed higher than 3rd?

I don't know

We already have 9 picks. I don’t really understand why teams (namely Philly) trade down numerous times in the draft. I think last year or the year before they accumulated 13 picks by trading down. I don’t really get the logic in that, because it’s not like anywhere close to 13 of those picks will make the team. In my view, it seems like you’re trading quality for unnecessary quantity.

I think

Fleener is more NFL ready then Allen, that is why he could be considered over Allen.

I’d be happy with any of them or not worrying about a highly touted TE.

I’m sure JR will find some kind of gem that we just don’t have the access to evaluate or see.

not only does he get a ring, the giants have been paying his salary as if he has been apart of the team the whole time. They are going to be restructuring his deal, because I believe this is the year his salary is supposed to go up.

But I know GMs and other non players can get them. I’m not sure I’d want one if I’m Jones. It would be more souvenir than earned.

And how the organization stood behind him and didn’t just cut him, they had almost no contact with the kid, but took care of him like one of their own. Just another reason the Giants organization is one of the classiest in the NFL. I couldn’t picture Jerry Jones doing anything but cutting ties with him.

I think he is pretty good

especially for someone who basically came out of nowhere and has won games with players that you couldn’t imagine winning with.

My Wife is a Patriot's fan...
"Giants rely on fumbles and stripping the ball. If the pats secure the ball, then the pats win, but if they fumble or let the ball get striped than the giants win. every game the giants play they always benefit from the other teams bonehead mistakes (fumbled or striped) not from thier skills. The giants are a dirty team, I can’t think of any othe team as dirty as the giants. They try to strip the ball as hard as they can because they know they can’t win a fair game." by EaglesNeedD on Jan 23, 2012 2:01 AM EST

I don’t know how you can do anything BUT pull for Chad Jones.

I’ve been saying since he said that he was working to come back and play for the Giants that he would. He’s young, athletic, has the best of support, and is driven… I think he’ll be back.

The returns from injury are going to be like an extra draft

Andre Brown should be all the way back from his Achilles, and given how popular he seems to be in the locker room, I expect to see him on the active roster next season

TT24, Justin Tryon, and Goff will all be back

Marvin Austin will be back, and should be an absolute beast.

Prince will have a full offseason and training camp

(Hopefully) Chad Jones will be back

This could be like getting an extra 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th this year.

by Raptor22 on Feb 16, 2012 9:42 AM EST up reply actions

more like

3 – 1st’s, TT (experience makes him a first), Austin (should have been a first), Prince (this past year could be considered an offseason for him)

2 – 2nds, Goff and Tryon

1 – 4th, Chad Jones… dont expect him to come in and make an impact, just sit and learn the system, help out on special teams.

Regardless of what happens, No playoffs, playoffs, no superblow, superblow.... The 2011/2012 is one of my favorite Giants Teams of all time.

What a glorious time to be a Giant fan!

Last year at this time we were wondering if there’d even be a season in 2011. Now we’re reigning champs considering the legitimate possibility the team will be significantly better in 2012.

by Matt V on Feb 16, 2012 9:54 AM EST up reply actions

I was being cautiously optomistic

and rating the guys based the returning rooks based on where they were drafted. Also not counting the vets as extra picks.

I really feel as though this team has dynastic potential. We’re set at the 4 cornerstones of an elite team:

1) Eli is an ELIte QB, and in his prime (and getting better every year).
2) Will Beatty is a good left tackle who can protect Eli’s blind side (does Eli have a blind side?) while opening up the run game to the left.
3) Corey Webster is a shutdown corner, and Prince could be even better
4) The line has passrushers out the wazoo, ranging from leaders in their prime like Tuck and Kiwi to a guy who is going to be the best at his position in JPP.

I think stepping up and winning the Superbowl when they were actually expected to, after going through the most difficult playoff run in history, is something of a brass-ring moment. The trick is to run with it while not falling on their faces. They’ve got all the horses and are stacked with young talent… They just have to stay hungry.

by Raptor22 on Feb 16, 2012 10:05 AM EST up reply actions

Packers

I could see us having a year like the Packers did this year – not saying 15-1, but like GB, we are going to be a lot healthier and have a much fuller team. Hopefully we will roll, much like we did in 2008 for the first 12 games.

The trick is going to be getting/staying hot at the right time – the NFC East should force us to stay focused and not go into cruise control.

And not having anybody trolling around the Latin Quarter after dark would help. ;)
