2012 Free agent class
A good one at several positions if the Giants lose Mannigham, Ross, and McKenzie, also if Ballard and Beckum are not ready for the season start.
http://www.footballsfuture.com/2012/fa/wr.html
WR Vincent Jackson would make a great target for Eli in this offense, Visanthe Shiancoe would be a good addition, and Carlos Rogers, coming off a great year for the Niners is available along with S Dashon Goldson.
The Giants may take a hit losing free agents this coming year, they can't pay everyone, but they may be able to sign some very good free agents who are looking for a playoff/Super Bowl type of team.

Dont count on any big names coming to the Giants. .. much like last yr.
I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.
Finally we get to see J Lin!!! Giant LB'zz
Improbable
but Ray Rice. If there were no sestrictions and Ravens were stupid enough to let him go.
he'll get the franchise tag

Ochocinco could have saved a ton of money if he didn't buy his team mates "Beats by Dre" because they all ended up getting "Beat by Giants"...FOR FREE!!

I was thinking......
If they lose players, looking for replacements that have talent, but moreso want to come to a team with a shot for a ring, as LT did with the Jets.
Health is big along with $$$$…if Peyton Hillis were healthy, I think he would look at NYG over Cleveland as a good move a this point in his career.
If I were Reese, I would scour these FA’s, and first, replace ( combined with the draft) what is lost, then find players who want a ring. There is a real deep FA class at the skill positions, and enough depth at OL and DBs this year.
Remember
it’s not only who we lose, but who we have to pay (say Cruz), in addition to other contracts where the money is increasing in the later years of the contract. So we’re maxed out even if we cut a bunch of guys as expected – that’s the problem we’re facing.
Some of the guys mentioned here – Carl Nicks, Ray Rice – would be absolutely perfect for the Giants, but we really are broke. Short of doing a major, major unpopular housecleaning, I don’t see us signing a single impact guy.
Hope I’m wrong, though. I’m crossing my fingers that we’ll add a second Nicks to our roster.

I think depends on what Reese sees us getting will depict on who we resign. I think he will cut a big name this off season on our team.
"They got a big-mouthed coach, a big mouth and a big-bellied coach that talks too much and now it's finally time to shut up- Brandon Jacobs
McKenzie
would be a big name, but he’s expected to go. Jacobs will go, or be reduced in salary. Diehl could go.
Now a big name that would be shocking would be somebody like Rolle, Canty or Snee. That would free a lot of space.
There is an argument to be made for doing it now, right after a SB win, rather than later. There’s a lot of good will toward the front office now, so the fans might accept it better now than at any other time. (Maybe.)

Rolle, Canty, and Snee
They would save us little because they have huge signing bonuses that will come due if cut.
My QB has 2 rings. Well, 3 if you want to get technical.
2012 NYG mock - 1: Dwayne Allen TE, 2: Brandon Boykin CB/RS, 3: A.J. Jenkins WR, 4: Vick Ballard RB, 5: Neiko Thorpe S, 6: Rishard Matthews WR/RS, 6: Blake DeChristopher G/T, 7: BPA
You think we have good replacements for them?
This is not the 2007 team.
2011 NYG will have their own legacy.
2012 cap
$120,375,000
The Giants are $1.7 mil over cap right now…..Kareem McKenzie was at 4 Mil, here is a link to 2012 salaries and fa’s;
http://www.bigblueinteractive.com/information-pages/player-salaries/
They can save enough by letting go of Jacobs, McKenzie, Ross to cover the draft along with 2-3 FA signings. Factoring in too are what to do with FA’s Deon Grant, Chase Blackburn, Dave Tollefson, Rocky Bernard, Jonathan Goff, Terrell Thomas.
Let go of Kareem, Jacobs, Ross, Manningham, then look at the second tier players I listed…….they can make some cap room and not trade off too much on losing talent .
McKenzie
is listed as a UFA for 2012. He doesn’t count in their numbers.
When I total the 2012 numbers from the BBI list, I get 88,332,486. However, there are 27 players listed who have no salaries attached. Most of these guys we will keep, some we will need to pay more, like Steve Weatherford.
Best estimates I’ve seen have us completely strapped unless we do something radical to clear space. Could happen, but we’ll see.

Bell from Buf
or Scaife from Ten.
Buy what we need and make cuts to make it work after… boy I’d run this team straight into the ground if given half a chance.
You down wit JPP?
I got 99 problems but a Vick ain't one!
I'd rather focus keeping the guys in BLUE in BLUE

we're not going after Vincent Jackson
what in the Giants history makes you think they’re doing this? First off, we have Hakeem Nicks to sign soon. ANd also Victor Cruz if he’s not a flash in the pan. That’s first. You don’t pay this nipplehead Jackson a big fat contract before those two. Holy shit do you not do that.
Of all that you mention, Shiancoe makes the most sense. He’s coming off a down year and I’m sure would love to play with Eli. We know he’s a good blocker, he was a blocking TE after all until Farve Farva’d him into a good TE.
Last night, a comedian died in New York. Somebody knows why. Somebody knows
Agree on VJ
Shiancoe would be fine, but he’ll be 32 at the start of the season.
John Carlson I’d have interest in as well. Seems like he’ll be recovered by the start of the season:

I'd rather go with someone healthy
we already have 2 TEs going to the PUP, possibly IR. Why have one who’s just coming off of it as the starter?

Younger
4 years younger than Shiancoe, so you could swing him a decent multi-year deal and hopefully keep him for awhile. Coming off an injury hopefully means you can get him at a discount.
But obviously you don’t sign him if you’re not 100% convinced he’s healthy.

Good ideas if they'll take minimum contracts
I think any TE that does not get a lot of interest this offseason will come to the Giants cheap for 1 year because they have a better guarantee of playing time to earn a better contract next year.

jackson will want a lot of money too
He is the Chargers franchise player meaning he makes 10+ million right now. He is a pro bowl WR that averages over 18 yards a catch. He is going to want to get payed, and probably will too.
you set up Simmsy nicely there
It’s cool Simmsy, I got this…Chach you are a blocking TE

We Might
Dwayne Allen is being mentioned a lot.
Question is, are we better off signing a vet who can start immediately? If not, the rookie would probably have to start – which isn’t the worst thing in the world, depending on how raw or developed he is.

I think Rodgers wants to get paid
There are rumors floating around the SF might not be able to afford his asking price. In a lockout year, most corners looked pretty bad due to no real off-season. With SF’s amazing front 7 it helped Rodgers look good. A lot of factors help him getting a big contract.
If we happen to loose Jacobs somehow I wouldn’t mind getting McClain for cheap. He is a bruiser and he loves running the ball.
That is IF he is cheap…
My Wife is a Patriot's fan...
"Giants rely on fumbles and stripping the ball. If the pats secure the ball, then the pats win, but if they fumble or let the ball get striped than the giants win. every game the giants play they always benefit from the other teams bonehead mistakes (fumbled or striped) not from thier skills. The giants are a dirty team, I can’t think of any othe team as dirty as the giants. They try to strip the ball as hard as they can because they know they can’t win a fair game." by EaglesNeedD on Jan 23, 2012 2:01 AM EST
We are about 7.5 million over the cap. I see us picking up no one and maybe resigning a couple of our own FA’s really using the draft again this year. If Reese is able to pull off bringing a big name here he would be the man of the year on time magazines cover.

We got Jerry Reese, we build through the draft.
For this year again, at least. The Giants ain’t got no money to spend on FA anyway. Not unless there is a big purge of the contracts of guys like DD almost 4 mil, Jacobs 4 + mil, Mac 3 + mil, and we don’t sign Ham or Ross and to a lesser degree TT, Goff who should come cheap because of injury.
