Travis Beckum to be activated, Mitch Petrus waived

Travis Beckum catches a pass last season. - Chris Trotman

Mitch Petrus has been bounced from the New York Giants' roster again, this time to make room for tight end Travis Beckum. ESPN is reporting that the Giants will activate Beckum from the PUP list and waive Petrus, an offensive guard. The move can become official at 4 p.m. ET Saturday.

Beckum, you might recall, tore his ACL during the Giants' Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots. Beckum had only five catches last season, and has just 26 in three full seasons. He had seven catches during the 2012 postseason, however.

Petrus was originally waived by the Giants at the end of the preseason when the team claimed offensive tackle D.J. Young off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles. Young failed his physical, however, and the Giants brought Petrus back. A fifth-round draft choice in 2010, Petrus started three games last season.

Reserve tight end Bear Pascoe is questionable for the Giants on Sunday with an ankle injury.
