Tom Coughlin: 'Naive' to think Sandy did not affect Giants

Tom Coughlin - Mark L. Baer-US PRESSWIRE

Did Hurricane Sandy have something to do with the New York Giants losing their last two games? It might have, head coach Tom Coughlin admitted to Mike Francesa of WFAN on Tuesday.

"You lose power. For example, just as close as Hoboken, there were guys that couldn’t stay in their apartments, couldn’t live in their homes, they had to get out. And then you are always concerned about your wife, your children, whether or not you have gas in the tank, whether or not there is warmth in your home. On a smaller scale, but reflective of what many people went through, certainly we were affected," Coughlin said.

"We tried to do the best job we could; we tried to back our week up and tried to put our players in a better position mentally where they could take care of their issues and then come to work.

"For the most part, when we were here, I think the focus was here. But to say that we weren’t affected, no, that would be foolish; that would be naive on my part."

Valentine's View: There is no denying that the effects of the storm had to impact the Giants' focus during that couple of week stretch. Thing is, the Giants don't get a mulligan for it. They get the next six weeks to make sure that the last two don't cost them a spot in the playoffs. If they don't make it, no one is going to want to hear about how the hurricane caused them to lose focus.
