Despite reports earlier on Wednesday that Victor Cruz and the New York Giants were close to finalizing a new contract for the popular and talented wide receiver, Cruz said Wednesday there is "no timetable" for when a deal will be completed.

"The only thing in place right now is the structure. That's all I can say at this point," Cruz said. "It's better than nothing."

Giants' fans worried that the team will somehow let Cruz get away can relax. This deal isn't done, but this is a strong indication that a deal will be done soon to keep the salsa-dancing sensation with the Giants for the next several years.

Cruz has 52 catches this season, fourth in the NFL, and seven touchdowns. He set a single-season franchise record last season when he had 1,536 receiving yards. He caught 82 passes a season ago. At his current pace Cruz could threaten the franchise record of 107 receptions set by Steve Smith in 2009.
